Couple who reported child in hot car allegedly run over by boy's mother

A Colorado woman who reported seeing a young boy left alone in a hot car was allegedly run over by the child's mother -- and must now use a wheelchair.

Shannon Dominguez, 43, and her boyfriend called 911 after observing a small boy left alone in a hot vehicle outside a store in Longmont, Colo., Fox affiliate KDVR-TV reported.

When police arrived, however, it was Dominguez who needed an ambulance.

The child's mother, identified as 27-year-old Kristina Riddell, reportedly became enraged when she heard the couple on the phone with police.

Riddell allegedly punched Dominguez's boyfriend, Alan Mason, before running the couple over with her white Honda.

"All four windows were rolled up. And it was in the direct sun. It scares the heck out of me. It?s some innocent child might die," Dominguez told the station.

The incident, which occurred June 7, left Dominguez so badly impaired that doctors say she may never walk again.

"Every day is a chore. Every day is stressful," said Dominguez, whose left leg was crushed.

Riddell is facing charges of hit-and-run, assault and child abuse.

She has an extensive criminal record, including arrests for assault, domestic violence and multiple driving violations, according to the station.

Interesting but sad twist to that story.  That mother must have been hella ###### to run two people over! :o

Normally, I'd feel bad about saying that the mother should be thrown in jail and taken away from the child, but in this case I think that would be nothing but a good thing for the kid. This woman sounds like a waste of energy. Yet another example for why it should be required to have a license to breed.

Sounds like someone needs anger management courses...

That's all I really have to say on this. She's obviously in the wrong on multiple counts, but give her treatment for her issues as well as a punishment for the crimes.

WTF is wrong with people? There should be ZERO tolerance for people leaving kids, or animals, in a hot car. And this lady...what a bitch.

Sums it up nicely. Hope she runs into a hangin' judge who'll throw the book at her.

She could have killed the child with her car, she tried to kill the couple with the car. The car itself seems to be a dangerous tool.

Or the result of a broken justice and rehab system, and people that need proper help and rehab.

i think this is one of the most concrete problems in western modern societies today: people get bad justice and even badder rehabilitation for entering into society again.

point well taken. I heard that the US uses or employs a HUGE private prison system. supposedly saves tax dollars but a corporation runs them.. yikes!!!

so apparently from guessing here, judges get a certain "cut" for putting people in prison which is why we have the largest prison population in the world. prisons for profit

Sounds like she should be executed before she strikes again.

Yikes. I wouldn't want you to be on my jury if I found myself in court. :/

Sounds like our "rehabilitation system" is working just fine (Y) .

The few people (friends) I knew that ended up going to jail or prison ended up being far worse people on the other side than they were when they went in.  Same with the military.

What does that even mean? Seriously, I have no idea. Are you suggesting that they should be jailed or have their children taken into care? What if it's an accident and it was only for five minutes or even 30 seconds? Zero tolerance means you'd have to be just as strict. Common sense dictates that each situation should addressed on merit, whereas zero tolerance works in absolutes with no concern given for extenuating circumstances or reason. Placing people in jail or taking children into care shouldn't be done lightly, especially when evidence shows that short jail sentences are actually less effective than non-custodial sentences.

In this case the mother was clearly in the wrong and given her criminal record and mental instability she should not have been responsible for children. There was clearly opportunity for earlier intervention and it should be determined why nothing was done, especially with children involved. It's a shame that a decent person concerned for the welfare of a child has had to suffer so horrifically for doing the right thing.

that happens when the prison is a school of bad stuff, injustices, people being treated in a non human way, just to punish the prisoners instead of rehabilitating them back into society, while taking their freedom but still treating them as human as possible; granted is not for everyone (sociopaths, for example) but the majority of people that goes into prison can learn, have life objectives and educate themselfs so they can be a useful tool in society, instead of being a burden.
