Ice_Blue
TUCSON Ariz. (Reuters) - A 9-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed her shooting instructor at an Arizona range with an Israeli-made Uzi submachine gun when the weapon's strong recoil caused her to lose control of her aim, police said on Tuesday. They said that Charles Vacca, 39, had been standing next to the girl at the Last Stop shooting range in White Hills near the Nevada border on Monday morning showing her how to fire the automatic weapon. When she pulled the trigger, the recoil forced her aim over her head, and Vacca was shot in the head, according to a Mohave County Sheriff?s Office statement.Vacca was airlifted to nearby Las Vegas, where he was pronounced dead. A spokesman for the sheriff?s department did not know how many times Vacca was shot or what model of Uzi the girl was firing. More
+Warwagon MVC Posted August 26, 2014 MVC Share Posted August 26, 2014 i see therapy in her future. That being said i'm not quite sure why a 9 year old needs to be handling guns. It's one of those things were you think... uh ...what did you think was going to happen when the 9 year old girl was going to pull the trigger, she was going to bad ass like an action hero? ... uh no that gun is going to kick her ass... and apparently yours too. +E.Worm Jimmy, alex_d2w and Nogib 3 Share
Jombi
I understand teaching your kids how to shoot, and proper weapon safety ... but it is obvious she is not old enough and/or strong enough to handle such a weapon. The instructor should have realized this. Nogib and SoCalRox 2 Share

trag3dy
No reason why kids can't shoot guns. However an Uzi is a bit much....I question the intelligence of a person who thought handing a fully automatic weapon to a 9 year old would be a good idea. Try teaching them to shoot something most people will actually own and a 9 year old girl can handle. A .22 caliber pistol or rifle would have been a better choice. theyarecomingforyou
I'm sorry but he was an idiot for thinking that a nine-year old girl would be able to safely operate a dangerous weapon with extreme kickback. It's one thing to teach children about weapons and show them how to use appropriate firearms, like a pistol; it's another entirely to give them a fully automatic weapon and think they'd be able to handle it after minimum training (from the video it looks like she'd only fired a single shot in non-automatic mode). Even adults have a tough time firing Uzis, as the kickback causes you to keep on the trigger. The only sympathy I have is for the girl, who will have to live with this for the rest of her life. :( +E.Worm Jimmy, alex_d2w and xrobwx71 3 Share
Dick Montage
No reason why kids can't shoot guns. Other than common sense. Do they vote? Do they drive? Do they operate site machinery? No, all common sense. But weapons, sure go right ahead. IT'S OUR RIGHTS! #Whatever Sure, have your little nonsense gun laws, I'm not even gonna go down the same tired argument... But come on, giving a kid a deadly (case in point) weapon is ridiculous. Make an age limit as per other common sense laws. game_over, Shadrack, Nogib and 18 others 21 Share

paulheu
Parents should be held responsible. Who in their right mind lets their 9 year old shoot guns.. Next you know they're given knives to go decapitate someone. Don't really see the difference between this and the idiot fanatics in the middle east right now.. Take their kids away and send them to jail for putting their kids in harms way and causing fatal injury.

XerXis
In Belgium kids are not allowed to shoot guns with live ammo. They can learn to shoot (the sport) in clubs with airsoft rifles. That's about it. And that sounds very reasonable to me. Not giving a nine year old a fully automatic deadly weapon seems common sense to me...apparently, some countries have other ideas about that Cute James, Dick Montage, Sly006 and 1 other 4 Share
Tomo
Who actually needs a fully automatic weapon? I get that you have rights to own a firearm, that's not the issue here, the issue is that her parents deemed that she actually needs to be able to use an Uzi? To do what with exactly? Self defence? Lovell
It's better to teach kids the dangers of weapons and how to handle them if you have weapons in the house, otherwise there's a chance the kids will find them and that's usually how accidents happen, that said to let a kid fire an Uzi on full auto after she's only fired one shot in semi auto is beyond stupid and clearly an avoidable mistake that's going to scar this poor girl for the rest of her life. Dick Montage
It's better to teach kids the dangers of weapons and how to handle them if you have weapons in the house, No. You teach a CHILD not to handle a weapon. Do we teach them how to consume alcohol, drive a car and and so on? BajiRav, Stoffel, +devHead and 2 others 5 Share

Lovell
No. You teach a CHILD not to handle a weapon. Do we teach them how to consume alcohol, drive a car and and so on? Because telling a kid not to touch something always works out, it's better to teach them responsibility than to just always say don't touch, if you don't want your kids to touch weapons and alcohol then don't have them in the house. Yeah, we wouldn't want there to be an accident. Someone could be killed. Oh wait... Really you're going to equate teaching gun safety to just handing a kid a fully auto Uzi?, 500 kids kill themselves each year with there parents guns. And if you do own a gun and think your kid won't get to it, listen to this: A recent study published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine found 39 percent of kids knew where their parent's guns were stored, while 22 percent said they had handled the weapons despite adult's warnings to stay away. What's more, age was not a factor in whether children had played with the guns -- 5-year-olds were just as likely to report doing so as14-year-olds. Dick Montage
We've given up on reclaiming the USA "The colonial experiment" Because telling a kid not to touch something always works out, it's better to teach them responsibility than to just always say don't touch, if you don't want your kids to touch weapons and alcohol then don't have them in the house. Your lack of logic astounds me!
jakem1
Apparently that particular shooting range has an age restriction on Uzi usage. You have to be 8 or older.
Kami-
What everyone here seems to forget is that in other countries such as Israel / part of Africa / etc, younger kids are taught how to use fully automatic weapons on a daily basis; forced to learn as a way of life. Evidentally there are safer ways of teaching kids than how this young girl was taught, use blanks, etc. That said, yes - don't just hand kids live guns ffs...
