Kraftman
Is this freeware news? Honestly I have never used it so I'm not being sarcastic...
ViperSnake
Wow! I've been using NetLeech all this time but it's been a memory hog on larger files! Is this one less of a memory hog?
Dark Reaper
Is it free free? Or is it free with a crap load of spyware and adaware?
oddcrap
How is this compared to IDM?
Copernic Reporter Posted June 6, 2006 Author Reporter Share Posted June 6, 2006 Just installed and seems to be clean. @oddcrap FlashGet was always my fav. I tried IDM inthe past even the last version (5.03) but i still like FlashGet for speed, interface etc...
Kraftman
Is this worth "upgrading" (used in the loosest of terms) from Free Download Manager? I mean, I have no problems with FDM.
Bhav
FlashGet is a great download manager :) Thanks Copernic.
ElectricDemon
Man....flashget (used to be jetcar)... Back in the day of 56k flat-rate and 2hr cut offs.. I used this for hefty downloads, left it running overnight to download 'huge' files. I set it to redial my ISP when the connection dropped. Might check it out again. It rocked back then (with the ads removed via adaware), I'm sure it rocks even more now
primexx
Should change the title from "FREEWARE" to "ADWARE" I just installed it on my other computer thinking that it was clean....adware was detected before installation even completed. What you people want to do is up to you, but I've already uninstalled it.
Amnesia
as far as I am aware, FlashGet has always been free but banner supported (not adware)
wynaut
Just got it to integrate into Opera 9. Ran a quick scan but found nothing suspicious. There aren't even ads anywhere in the program window. (to primexx: what adware did you detect?). Memory usage was below 2mb on my ageing system. However, Download Express still remains my favourite - it has never created a corrupted file for me. I dont know which adware it detected, basically avast identified one of the dlls as adware during the installation process.

mycoolkim
Its a good program (period). If it bloody has spyware, remove the spyware. No big deal.
CoolCatBad
Apparently the adware warning simply concerns fgiebar.dll, which adds a FlashGet toolbar to IE. Nothing to worry about but they should make this clear on their website. I will happily use this now that it's freeware, you can get a plugin for automating downloads in Firefox, even though it's called an Opera Plugin, here http://www.flashget.com/en/browser.htm Just point to your Firefox plugins folder during install. iconoclast
I'll try it out. I've been using GetRight but I am bored with it. /edit Yea, both Avast and Spysweeper caught the "Browser helper object" which was the toolbar. Prevented it from installing and working fine.
