New Alphablended Os X Cursor Set In Xp Format!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just found out a way to make XP's own alphablended cursors, (smooth and shadowed rainbow of death) so without further adieu ;):

OS X Cursors for Windows XP

I'm sure most of you know how to change your cursors by now, but in case you dont:

1. Open up Control Panel

2. Select Mouse Properties

3. Select "Pointer" tab

4. Select the cursor you want to change from the list

5. Click "Browse" and search for where ever you extracted the cursors too

6. Select the cursor you want (they are all named accordingly) Hit open, and repeat.

Enjoy!

Oh and as a cool side note. These Cursors dont affect java or quicktime, no erratic flashing!

*Updated* Softer Shadows (looks better now imo)

Damn there goes my 1337 status  ;)

awesome cursors!!!!!!

I have a little request, if you don't mind :)

Would it possible to move the WorkinginBackground.ani cursor to the top leftmost pixel, where the "hot spot" is currently located? As it is right now, the cursor is about 2 pixels below and to the right of the hotspot. Not a big deal, except that when changing from standard cursor to working in background, there is a 2 pixel shift in the location of the cursor on the screen. Again, not a huge problem, except that if you had the cursor on a particular button (for example, the Close button in IE, while viewing a questionable website while your wife was home) and you were patiently waiting for the page to finish loading (workinginbackground.ani) and then as soon as the page finishes loading (back to NormalSelect.cur) it jumps two pixels (off IE's Close button) ... Well, sometimes this can be a problem. Instead of the cursor being on the Close button, it is suddently on the Maximise button because it shifted two pixels from workinginbackground.ani to NormalSelect.cur ... :D

Anyway, if you could move the .ani over and up a couple of pixels, to where the hotspot is, that would be awesome. I would do it myself except that GIF Movie Gear doesn't handle transparencies in .ani's, and neither does Animator (MA5.5) ...

thanks a million, I hate to pick on little trivial things but I really dig on these cursors and would LOVE them to be absolutely perfect ... (IMO)

:D

ok sorry for bothering you, but I jsut wanted to say that I figured out how to edit these things in IconForge and took care of my little issue myself :)

In case you're interested, I simply set the hotspot for the WorkingInBackground.ani to x=2,y=2 ... Perfect transition now!! I also changed the hotspot for the two Busy.ani's, from x=16,y=16 to x=10, y=10 ... makes the change from/to NormalSelect.cur a little bit smoother.

:D

Thanks again for these cursors man, they're really cool!!!!!!

Chris

is there a certain place to keep these extracted files?

Well, you could just put them in your C:\WINDOWS\Cursors directory ...

I also added a "1" to each file name (for example "1 Alternate Select.cur", "1 Busy.ani" etc) so that these cursors show up first when I'm browsing for cursors through the Control Panel|Mouse process ...

    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
