8.8 earthquake in japan , tsunami warnings indonesia, russia

For those in America - better start preparing and educating yourselves...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascadia_subduction_zone

Scientist say that these quakes arent linked -

Chile - 8.8

New Zealand - 6.3

Japan - 9.0

America - ????

I think we're going to see the worst of all 4 . This particular subduction zone has caused 100ft tsunami's in the past 3500 years. According to records in Japan of tsunamis. This zone is very capable of producing a 9.0+ quake...so Pacific Northwest...better start preparing.

A subduction zone is most capable of producing a 9.0, but that doesn't mean it'll happen. Calm down

Not sure if it has been posted yet but I found this to be a good read. An explanation of how Fukushima's nuclear reactor works and what has been happening so far exactly:

http://mitnse.com/2011/03/13/why-i-am-not-worried-about-japans-nuclear-reactors/

The problem is that the basis of that write-up is that the reactor containment vessels are intact and not been compromised. We have no idea if that is the case anymore (and from what was being said yesterday, it isn't the case).

True, the part I found interesting is the explanation of how the Fukushima nuclear plant works, the emergency procedures, and how it all relates with the past events. The rest is just speculation, an as you point out quite probably outdated and/or inaccurate.

The whole website has a lot of information about everything that's happening.

The workers at the plant are true heroes in my eyes, the conditions they're working in and the fact they know the risks yet are still battling away 5 days on

These guys and girls are ballsy as **** man, and i am humbled by their courage, thankfully there is a new powerline almost ready to power up the generators that drive the cooling pumps back online, things will be better soon. Keep these folks in your thoughts.
