Athlon XP 1800+ gets flagged as 1.8GHz

Let the confusion begin! - ED

Mesh Computers has been caught out plugging an Athlon XP 1800+ PC as a 1.8GHz machine.

Someone at Mesh had made a mistake and made the same kind of mental leap that AMD expects punters to make - that an XP 1800+ chip, boasting 'quantispeed technology' runs at 1.8GHz+.

The XP 1800+ runs at 1.53GHz, but using the AMD rule of thumb that its processors can outrun an Intel chip boasting 300 more megahertz, the 1800+ is there to suggest 1.8GHz+ performance.

Mesh said the error was only on site for a couple of hours, and anyone trying to buy the Matrix XP1800 CSO machine would have been presented with a set of specs not making any GHz claims whatever, before they coughed up the money.

"We had a small anomaly on the website that's been changed," said marketing manager John Hendrick.
