Yesterday, LG Display announced a variety of displays it will be showing off at CES 2020, including a TV display that can roll down from the ceiling. Today, LG Electronics, the more consumer-facing subsidiary of the conglomerate, has announced it will be expanding its lineup of TVs at the event.
LG is promising a Real 8K experience across the entire new lineup of TVs, which consists of eight models. These include two LG SIGNATURE OLED models - one coming in at 88 inches diagonally, and another with 77 inches - as well as six LG NanoCell models - the Nano99, Nano97, and Nano95 TVs all come in either 65- or 75-inch models.
All of the TVs exceed the 8K Ultra HD definition set by the Consumer Technology Association, which requires a minimum contrast modulation of 50%. LG says it's also future proofing consumers with the ability to view 8K from a variety of sources, including HDMI - which will support 8K playback at 60 frames per second - as well as USB, with support for codecs such as HEVC, VP9, and AV1.
Of course, the new TVs are packed with LG's third-generation α9 AI processor, promising to optimize picture and sound quality, as well as upscaling content to 8K resolution. The processor can also produce more natural skin tones, defined facial features, and more readable characters. It can also recognize the content on the TV and automatically change the settings accordingly.
The AI Sound Pro feature can also identify five categories of audio content - music, movies, sports, drama, or news - and enhance sound settings accordingly. This also allows the TV to "up-mix" audio, offering a 5.1 surround sound experience.
The new TVs can also be used to control and manage IoT devices, with support for hands-free voice control. The company's voice recognition technology is available in 144 countries, and the WebOS software offers support for Apple's AirPlay , HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. LG says it will also be adding Alexa Premium Far-Field Voice in the future.
