The Windows 10 May 2019 Update is now available to anyone looking for it

After over a month of testing in the Release Preview ring of the Insider program, Microsoft finally released the Windows 10 May 2019 Update to the public a couple of weeks ago. However, even after the extensive testing, the update was only made available for users that manually check for updates in Windows 10, and even then, not all users were seeing the new release after clicking the button.

Last night, though, the company revealed that the update is now available to any user who clicks the "Check for updates" button in the Settings app. That means that the update will be available to install, but keeping in line with its promise, Microsoft still won't install the update automatically once it has been detected. You can choose to install it whenever it's more convenient for you.

It's important to remember that, back in October of last year, Microsoft decided to skip over the Release Preview ring of the Insider program entirely, and released a very problematic build to the public. The update ultimately had to be pulled from the servers just a few days later, and it would be another month before it was re-released. This time around, Microsoft is being much more careful and giving users more control over their PC.

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update has a bunch of improvements and new features, like a true system-wide light theme, Windows Sandbox, and more. You can read more about the new features here. If you're interested in them, you should now be able to get the update directly from Windows Update, or by using the Media Creation Tool or the Update Assistant.
