Android lets you share audio on two headphones as part of latest feature drop

Google has announced a bunch of new AI tools and features for Android devices. The latest feature drop in September brings new updates to the Emoji Kitchen, Gboard, Quick Share, and improved Bluetooth support.

For starters, you will be able to use Gboard"s new AI writing tools to correct grammar, fix typos, and change your style to be more formal, casual, expressive, or concise. Google said that the feature uses on-device processing, and you can command it to proofread an entire message or rewrite text without leaving the keyboard.

The search giant has updated Emoji Kitchen, a feature that lets you combine two different emojis into a sticker. Its revamped interface lets you browse through the library, add custom stickers to a favorites section, and explore personalized emoji suggestions.

Watching movies and listening to songs on your Android device is getting a significant upgrade. You can binge-watch movies with a friend by connecting two headphones to your phone simultaneously. The feature will work for headphones that support LE (Low Energy) Audio Bluetooth when paired with select devices from Samsung, Xiaomi, and Pixel.

Sharing audio to multiple devices isn"t happening for the first time on Android. Samsung already has a home-baked feature called Dual Audio, which lets you connect two headphones or speakers.

Google will also let you create a private audio broadcast and share audio with a group via a QR code. The Android feature is powered by LE Audio Auracast, which was previously limited to hearing aid devices.

Google has now scaled LE Audio Auracast to compatible Pixel devices on top of supported models from Samsung and Xiaomi. Here"s a list of devices that support LE Audio Auracast:

  • Google Pixel 8 and later models
  • Samsung flagships since 2023 (Galaxy S23, S24, S25 series and Galaxy Z Fold5, Fold6, Fold7 series)
  • Xiaomi 14T, Xiaomi 14T Pro, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Xiaomi MIX Flip
  • POCO X6 Pro, POCO F6 Pro, POCO F7 Pro, POCO F7 Ultra

The company notes that both the phone and headphones should support LE Audio for the audio sharing and broadcast features to work. "Everyone who joins in can jam to the same playlist using their own headphones, without disturbing anyone else," it said.

Apart from that, Google has redesigned the Quick Share feature, which now shows a progress indicator to tell how much of the file has been transferred. You can quickly toggle between sending and receiving, preview the photos you"re sharing, and open received files right away.
