Apple & AT&T randomly cancelling iPhone 4 preorders

AT&T and Apple aren"t having a good week this week with pre-orders opening in disaster with systems failing and many customers unable to order. Now, customers" iPhone orders are being cancelled at random by Apple and AT&T, according to Engadget - even though some pre-orders started shipping late today.

Some customers are receiving this email from Apple:

"Dear Customer,

We were unable to complete the authorization process for your iPhone order. As a result, we had to cancel your iPhone order. To complete the purchase of your iPhone, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an AT&T company-owned retail store.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Apple Online Store Team"

And, over on the AT&T side of things, it doesn"t get much rosier with some customers getting this email:

"Your iPhone order has been cancelled.

Your credit card has not been charged.
If you believe you have received this email in error, please return to the AT&T store where you placed your order.

Sincerely,

AT&T"

A reader of Gizmodo wrote in to say that: "My apple order got cancelled, ive been calling back and forth to Apple and ATT.. they both have no idea why it was cancelled, att says apple was out of stock and apple says att said i wasnt eligible.... they say alot of people are calling about it"

As noted above, and reflective of the comments and emails on Engadget and Gizmodo, a lot of people as of writing are quite upset and there still seems to be no official reasoning from either Apple or AT&T.

If you"ve been affected, or even if you"re one of the lucky ones that are still getting their iPhone 4 - we"d love to hear from you in the comments of this article - include a screenshot if you can.
