Apple"s $3,499 spatial computing headset, known as Vision Pro, fell short of expectations. However, rumors and reports suggest Apple is working on the upcoming generation of Vision Pro, featuring a new kind of band.
MacRumors dug through Apple"s backend code and found references to a "Dual Knit Band" for an upcoming version of Apple Vision Pro, supposedly offering more comfort with its updated design. It could be a mix of the existing bands Apple ships with the current Vision Pro, the publication notes.
Apple announced the Vision Pro in 2023 and began selling it in the US in early 2024, before expanding its availability to other countries and regions. The spatial computing headset currently ships with a Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band, providing users with different fit options to choose from.
The Solo Knit Band is a single wide band made using 3D knitted fabric and comes with a Fit Dial to adjust the Vision Pro to the user"s head. The Dual Loop Band, on the other hand, features a pair of upper and lower straps for a precise fit.
Apple Vision Pro lacks an internal battery and relies on an external power bank, which deprives it of an essential safety feature that many Apple users might take for granted. Still, the headset becomes front-heavy with its 600 to 650 grams (21.2–22.9 ounces) weight, depending on the Light Seal and headband configuration.
According to the publication, the description of the rumored Dual Knit Band suggests it will have a strap that wraps around the back of the head and another upper strap that spans the top of the head. The latest finding aligns with Mark Gurman"s earlier report from July, which stated that Apple is prototyping a new strap to reduce neck strain while wearing the Vision Pro.
This is the new band I’ve been talking about. It’ll never happen but Apple should be giving this for free to every single person who has paid $3500+ for the Vision Pro. https://t.co/EHkdLSk0lc

Apple Vision Pro was updated this year with visionOS 26, which brings more natural Personas, Spatial Widgets, and other features. An updated Vision Pro with a lower price tag is expected to launch later this year. It was also reported that Apple is working on a separate Vision Pro model that can be plugged into a Mac and is exploring a pair of augmented reality glasses similar to the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.
