343 Industries, now known as Halo Studios, launched Halo Infinite"s free-to-play multiplayer portion back in November 2021. The first-person shooter went on to receive a complete campaign and four years of content updates as a part of its live service design. Now, the developer is closing that window. Announced today as Operation: Infinite, it will be the final major content update that will be arriving to the game.
Halo Studios said that the decision to stop developing content for Halo Infinite was made due to it needing to focus on the multiple future Halo projects that it is working on currently. From these projects, only Halo: Campaign Evolved has been officially announced, at least for now.
"As the Halo Studios team shifts focus to in-development projects such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, we’d like to thank our Halo Infinite players for years of steadfast support," said the company today. "It’s been a legendary run of Seasons, Events, Fractures, and Operations, with plenty of maps, modes, sandbox additions, Forge tool upgrades, and incredible memories along the way. None of those milestones would have been possible without the guidance and enthusiasm of our community."
Operation: Infinite for Halo Infinite is releasing on November 18, and it will double career rank progression as well as Spartan Points gain. A brand-new free 100-tier season pass as well as a 100-tier premium pass will be made available as well, containing armor sets, coatings, visors, stances, weapon models, and more customizations to close things out.
The Exchange free in-game shop will also gain over 200 new items for players to trade in their Spartan Points for, alongside unlocks from previous updates. New maps are also incoming, including the festive Husky Raid map Yuletide, as well as the new map Vacancy for ranked modes. The studio added that challenges and ranked seasons will continue rotating into Halo Infinite going forward.
The maintenance mode switch for Halo Infinite is happening right after Halo Studios officially unveiled its next major Halo project. Halo: Campaign Evolved is slated to be a remake of the first entry to the series, but as the name suggests, with only the campaign portion. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game is gaining brand-new missions, backported weapons, vehicle hijacking, sprint, and even four-player cooperative play as features. However, the biggest change is that this will be the first mainline Halo game to debut on the PlayStation 5.
