Google Gemini can now transform your photos into videos

Google has introduced a new feature in Gemini, powered by its Veo 3 model, which allows users to convert a still photo into a short video.
Google Gemini Video Generation

During Google I/O 2025, Google revealed Veo 3, its latest video generation model. By the end of May, Google expanded Veo 3 access to more countries and mobile users. Last week, Google expanded Veo 3 access to Google AI Pro subscribers in over 150 countries. Since its launch, Google claims that over 40 million videos have been generated using Veo 3 across the Gemini app and Flow.

Today, Google announced a new capability in Gemini that can turn any photo into an eight-second video using the power of the Veo 3 model. If you have a Google AI Pro subscription, here's how you can turn your photos into videos:

  1. Go to the Gemini app and select ‘Videos’ from the tool menu in the prompt box.
  2. Upload a photo by tapping the '+' button.
  3. Type in the scene and audio instructions.
  4. Gemini will transform your photo into an 8-second video.
  5. You can also share the video with others or download it.

It is important to note that all Gemini-generated videos will come with a visible watermark to show they are AI-generated and an invisible SynthID digital watermark to prevent easy tampering.

While ChatGPT has already sparked numerous viral moments—most recently with its Studio Ghibli–style images—Gemini has yet to catch a similar wave since its launch. Google has been leveraging its employees on social media to drum up excitement around new products, but hasn’t broken through so far. This photo-to-video converter, however, looks poised to go viral, and you can even see Google CEO Sundar Pichai hyping it up on X in the tweet below.

Since I/O in May, you've created 40M+ videos with Veo 3!
