EA had a record-breaking open beta session earlier this month with Battlefield 6. With millions of players jumping into play over the two weekends, the development team at Battlefield Studios had gathered a lot of data on what needs changing. Today, it shared what it learned from the open beta and what changes are incoming.
Starting off, the gunplay is being touched up to improve the unique feel of each weapon and reward players that fire in controlled bursts or taps. Moreover, the M87A1 shotgun and its one-shot kill rampages that were seen in the beta are being nerfed, with it needing more pellet hits to secure kills going forward. Battlefield 6"s Time-to-Kill mechanics are being explored for changes according to the developer as well, though no specifics were given today.
Fans of the series will also be happy to hear that the glitchy or unintended movement mechanics seen in the beta are being taken out. This includes nerfing the slide jump and building momentum from consecutive jumps. Firing weapons when jumping or sliding will also correctly reduce accuracy.
"These changes are designed to make sliding and jumping more situational, so they are no longer ideal options for engaging in gunfights, and will contribute to a gameplay pace that rewards skillful movement without becoming too fast or unpredictable," explains the developer.
The rooftops and mountains that are supposed to be unreachable, but weresn’t in the beta, are being corrected too. Speaking of maps, the developer reassured fans that despite the beta only having smaller-scale battlefields, the launch version will have much larger arenas to fight in.
Unfortunately, it looks like 24-player Rush seems to be staying intact, with the developer saying that it wants to have a Bad Company-style, smaller-scale experience with fast-paced action for the mode.
The studio encouraged players to use the Battlefield Portal mode in the full game to create custom modes to enable these larger-scale experiences using the editing tools.

Battlefield 6 releases on October 10 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The PC version will be available across Steam, the EA App, and the Epic Games Store.
