The first self-published game of Remedy Entertainment landed in June this year, with FBC: Firebreak arriving as a spin-off live service experience set in the Control and Alan Wake supernatural universe. The cooperative title did not launch to rave reviews from fans though, with it being called out for not having enough content and substance. Now, the studio is ready with its first major update to the game titled Breakout.
Described as an update that delivers "systemic overhauls" to revitalize the game, it carries a whole lot of new content as well as community-requested quality-of-life improvements.
Starting off, the Job Board is now the Crisis Board, offering an array of curated playable content which should make the experience feel more dynamic and less predictable than before. The studio said it should make missions be "closer to the first-responder fantasy at the heart of the game."
"The Crises use the same objectives Jobs had, but Zones 1-2 have 25% fewer objective requirements than before," explains Remedy. "On top of that, we want to make Crises more unpredictable, which is why each Crisis currently has two unique Alternative Objectives that can pop up randomly during Zones 1 and 2. These replace the primary objective of the Crisis, so whereas before the mission flow was always the same, there should be a bit more variety and surprise in how Crises progress."
Meanwhile, the new mission type, or Crisis, is Outbreak. This follows a mold outbreak in that is affecting Hiss and Firebreakers, transforming them into new enemies with fresh abilities and weaknesses. This new environment"s objective involves carrying fragile spores by hand or by train into research machinery before they get accidentally eaten.
The three new heavy weapons of this update are the Scattergun, the semi-automatic rifle, and the rotary cannon. Alongside these, a new gun modification system has been implemented, letting players upgrade and customize their weapons using the three slots available on each armament. This can include mods that push back enemies when shot, or do more damage at close range, or do more damage the more bullets that are fired before reloading.
For new players, an “Orientation” tutorial level has been added to make onboarding a little easier, while several intro videos are also available with details on mission types and lore.

Looking ahead, Remedy plans to launch the Rogue Protocol major update in late November. This will carry the Endless Shift roguelike mode, voice chat support, and Control-themed armor sets. December will have balance improvements. Following that in 2026, by March the studio will bring in another major update carrying a new Crisis Kit, Crisis Kit synergy improvements, and more.
FBC: Firebreak is also a part of the new Steam Autumn Sale that"s happening right now too, with it dropping its price by 30% for the next week.
