Samsung teases Gear S3 smartwatch reveal, sets unveiling date for August 31st

The Samsung Gear S2

Samsung may have just launched the Galaxy Note7 and much of its attention is on rolling out the phablet around the world. But that’s not to say the company is done with big announcements. In fact, Samsung has confirmed that the Gear S3 smartwatch and fitness device will be unveiled at the end of August.

Rumors have been swirling that Samsung is getting ready to unveil a brand new smartwatch, continuing its line of wearable Gear S devices. The previous Gear S2 line of watches was launched last year, and despite a number of cosmetic updates over the course of 2016, the devices were getting a bit long in the tooth at this point. But fret not, because as you can see in the teaser image, Samsung is just about ready to unveil a successor.

The Gear S3 is expected to keep the general form-factor and design of the Gear S2 models, featuring a similar circular sAMOLED screen. But the Gear S3 is also expected to bring a number of big changes in terms of specs and capabilities. The S3 smartwatch is rumored to focus on those who love the outdoors, and come with altimeter, barometer and integrated GPS antenna.

The Gear S3 is also rumored to be coming in three distinct flavors, called Classic, Frontier and Explorer. This is very much in line with previous models, though it’s not yet clear what the differences will be between these models.

Still we’re only a few weeks away from the unveiling event, so we won’t have too long to wait before we get to find out everything Samsung’s been working on.
