Samsung to officially launch Galaxy XR headset on October 21, here's what we know

In December last year, Samsung offered the first official look at its upcoming Galaxy XR headset, codenamed “Project Moohan.” The company revealed that the device is powered by Android XR, an operating system developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, tailored specifically for extended reality (XR) experiences. Earlier this year, Samsung further revealed the Project Moohan XR headset at its Galaxy Unpacked event, alongside the launch of the Galaxy S25 series.

Today, Samsung announced a new Galaxy Event scheduled for October 21, where it will officially launch the Galaxy XR headset, developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm. This upcoming headset will be the first product built on the open and scalable Android XR platform.

As with previous Galaxy events, the launch will be livestreamed on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung’s YouTube channel on October 21 at 10 p.m. ET.

For a limited time, customers who reserve the new Galaxy XR headset will receive a $100 Samsung Credit (“Reservation Gift”) when they purchase the reserved device between October 21, 2025, and November 16, 2025.

Based on previous hands-on experiences with this upcoming headset, here’s what we know so far:

  • The Samsung XR headset features colored fabrics and a large reflective front panel, similar to the Apple Vision Pro.
  • It lacks an external eye display like the Vision Pro; users’ eyes remain hidden, but the device includes a removable magnetic light shield to block light.
  • It comes with an adjustable head strap.
  • It is powered by a Snapdragon chipset, housed within a thin metallic front frame.
  • It includes a removable and replaceable battery that can be swapped without any tools.
  • It offers physical controls — a button on the top right, volume rockers on the top left, and a touchpad on the right side.
  • Users can move, resize, and place apps anywhere in the XR environment using hand gestures.
  • Android apps, including the Play Store and YouTube, are supported.
  • Gemini AI serves as the default assistant, handling voice commands, on-screen interactions, and multitasking.
  • Circle to Search is fully integrated and should work seamlessly on the device.

This upcoming Galaxy XR headset marks a major step for the Android ecosystem into the spatial computing race, which is currently dominated by Apple and Meta. You can find the announcement post here on Samsung"s official site.
