Google announced that it is lifting the price tag off some AI-powered features in its video creation app, Google Vids. These features were already available to paying users and are now rolling out to all Google account users.
For the uninitiated, Google Vids was launched more than a year ago as a video creation tool for Workspace users to quickly create business, training, or promotional videos. Its basic, no-cost version was rolled out to free Google accounts users earlier this year in August.
Google has pushed several upgrades to Google Vids since its arrival in 2024. You can generate custom video clips with sound, replace the background with a simple text prompt, turn images into videos, and generate videos in different formats.
As part of the latest update, free users can now use AI-generated voiceovers, remove silences and filler words instantly with transcript trimming to clean up recordings, or improve images using the built-in AI image editing features.
"From vacation highlight reels to creative birthday cards to promotional shorts for your side hustle, Gemini in Vids helps you create videos for just about anything," the company said. Speaking of vacation, Google has announced a bunch of travel-focused AI features for Google Search and Google Flights.
Apart from this, the search giant has also pushed an under-the-hood update to Google Vids, bringing support for its latest video generation model Veo 3.1 to power ingredients-to-video. The feature lets you generate videos from ingredient images, such as product, character, and company logos.
You can choose up to three images with an instructive prompt to get the job done. Google notes that Veo 3.1 generates clips "with consistent subjects, characters, and objects to help you tell a strong, cohesive story." This new capability is currently rolling out to paid Workspace users across different tiers and users of Google AI Pro/Ultra subscriptions.
