Install DDR3L ram for all processors and motherboards

Recommended Posts

My PC Specifications:

======================

Processor: Intel Core i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40 GHz

Motherboard: Asus H81M-E

Memory: Transcend 2GB DIMM DDR3 1333 MHz

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32 bit

Dear friends,

I will be using windows 7 64 bit so intend to install a 4GB DDR3L ram in place of the current 2GB DDR3 ram. Will DDR3L ram work with the current motherboard and processor?

The current processor is EOL (end of life). In case the current processor dies out and I need to buy either 5th or 6th or 7th generation processor along with respective compatible motherboard, can I use DDR3L ram in such processors and motherboards, in the future? Will 5th - 7th generation processor compatible motherboards support DDR3L ram? I don't want to buy DDR4 ram right now since it won't work with the current motherboard. I want to upgrade the ram (discarding the present) in such a way so that the new ram could be used for current and future generation processors and motherboards without a hassle.

Thanks in advance.

Its depends on the motherboard you're going to purchase, if you plan to upgrade near future, don't think to use DDR3. and memory is dirt cheap, dump it and move on.

iirc 6th and 7th use DDR4, so no, not really.

Both 6 and 7th generations support DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V.  Just hard to find boards which support it.

For example ... this one.

Remember, you'd have to purchase a board which supports the DDR3L since the pin layouts is different between DDR4 and DDR3L.  Happy hunting...
