JCPenny got hit really hard a while back.. https://searchengineland.com/new-york-times-exposes-j-c-penney-link-scheme-that-causes-plummeting-rankings-in-google-64529 SEO is tricky for sure. Since Google doesn't share the algorithms it uses (for good reason) for it's crawlers, you just have to guess for the part. However, if you put up truly good content with images, you'll make it first page for a lot of stuff. If it's a competitive market, better start hitting those Adwords, which can be very costly but a good ROI once you get the hang of it. It's hard to find a good Company that won't take advantage of you in the SEO/Adwords business. Doing it yourself will be more costly upfront due to testing and tweaking, but in the long run, it's the best way to go if you're willing to put the time into it. And by time, I mean several months of trial and error.

SEO is essential because the mistakes for it can be devasting as hightimes.com has experienced. What a horrible time too for this to happen to hightimes.com, during their Crowdsource funding.
