MSN to come on X-Box 360

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on The Inquirer.

MICROSOFT says it is going to release some new software for the Xbox 360 within the next six months.

It will be used to send and receive text messages within the existing MSN mobile phone network. So even when your mates are down at the pub, you can still brag about the n00bs you're pwning in Call of Duty 2.

Apparently, there will be no fee for this service. So, the 18% of smartphones and PDas in Europe that use Windows Mobile as their operating system will soon be able to talk with X360s at not charge.

Chating with a X360 controler?

I hope they will made a Keyboard/Mouse combo for X360 (Or to be able to plug them via USB...)

Smart move ms, but the keyboard issue will be a tough one (although I thought there was a keyboard available?)

btw. You can plug in any USB keyboard to the 360 and it works. I used a dell keyboard that came with my laptop. It's still kinda goofy to have a keayboard flopping around your entertainment center.

:shiftyninja:

This won't happen.. first off it's the inquirer, and secondly Major Nelson (majornelson.com) has in the past said that MSN will _not_ be included into Xbox Live. But who knows, perhaps this is a possibility, however i just don't think it will happen, no matter how much i want it to.

That would be an inconvenience... I can't type fast enough on a controller guh!

They said the same thing about mobile phones... can't type fast enough without QWERTY keyboard and see how that turned out, some kids messaging faster than most people type on their computers.

You can use any USB keyboard for text input on your 360 already... but even without it the way you input text in the 360 is by far the most efficient ever seen on a game console.

Absolutely. MS isn't just one of the biggest corporatations for reasons, they have a brain :)

The title is misleading, MSN is a company. I believe you are referring to MSN Messenger, the program?

I wish people nower days wouldn't be so lazy. Even typing MSNM would suffice.

And it's called Windows Live Messenger now!

What ever... I think they talk of the MSN Protocol... not the program since it's finish, it's now WLM.

I believe J might have mentioned the intention to include MSN Messenger down the track, but he was very vague about it.

I'd just sell my Xbox 360 if Microsoft tries to ram anything down my throat with Xbox Live. I don't want MSN/Windows Live Messenger. I don't want to support MSN. I just want to play games and invite my friends.

Requiring a .NET Passport for a Gamercard is enough to **** me off already. If they pull anything else, I'll just move to Sony's platform. Simple as that.

well you have already bought an Xbox, so it doesn't really matter to MS.
