Well, I understand the pedophiles problem, but what about the terrorists? How can they use bittorent? For what?

Transferring the next Osama video?

edit: Eh. Shouldn't reply without watching the video first.

What they worry about, is encryption. Not the bittorent.

The bittorent part is there just because the ISPs afraid of the encryption, and the users actually using what they pay for. Meh story.

Anytime the US gubmint wants to ban or control something

they try to group it in with the current fear phrase so the

sheeple will fall for it. Most people don't have a clue about

their politicians or the laws that they pass until it's too late.

If they wanted to ban the use of iced tea they would conveniently

discover that iced tea causes cancer. In my day it was rock and roll.

They publicized information that all those rock and roll gyrations

made people have back problems and caused young people to

have sex thoughts. All of a sudden Elvis Presley was banned from

television.

Then the sugar consortium refused to grease the palms of the

crooked politicians and kick back to the gubmint so suddenly

sugar was the main cause of obesity and abmornal or

hyper-activity in children. It took 30+ years to get them to admit

that sugar was not as bad as they said and sugar substitutes

caused cancer.

Now paedophilia and terrorism are the current scare phrases so

they are lumped into almost every attempt to pass legislation

that would otherwise be instantly killed by a normal population.

I say it's time to put our current government to death and form

another that doesn't favor the big corps. and rich dogs.

It's time to throw their tea in the harbor again.

You pretty much summed up my thoughts as well.

So many people (in the US) seem so willing to give up their rights and freedoms, all in the name of the "war on terror".

Pathetic, that the government would exploit the general population who believes everything on Foxnews...

What a bad piece of journalism.

It's basically this: "terrorists and pedophiles use encryption, general public gets encryption, spy stations are getting inundated with encrypted traffic, encryption (and as such BitTorrent) is bad)

i like how the ISP dude blames slowness on their networks (e.g. overselling bandwidth) on bittorrent.

So the next time your speed drops drops your normal speed to 256k speed or the such, don't think it's because your ISP only has enough bandwidth to support the 256k speed, and are ripping you off, assume it's people using the bandwidth they pay for.

The title of the thread is very misleading. The video is generally about how encrypting data is becoming a problem for the world's police force to track down law breaking.

I just named it what the article was named.

They have been/are spying on everything we do. Well almost. And now that is in jepardy. To try and shift blame they point to the finger at illegal downloading and somehow they tell us that downloading a movie helps paedophiles an terrorists. I was grinding my teeth all through that video.

While I agree with you with everything... except one part... *real* terrorism and pedophiles *are* evil. The gov't should be scared about encryption wrt to these 2 things as it allows them to be more anonymous, and can bypass the law... however, they are obviously wrong in blaming bittorent. It is not the tool that is bad, it is how you use it. Cause in the same breath, the gov't uses encryption in everything that it does, and use networks (bittorrent is just another p2p network for simplicity sake).

People have a right to privacy... when they aren't breaking the law.. the law abiders never have anything to worry about, and the gov't don't really care about the law abiding ones.. it is that it can't distinguish between the law abiding ones that are using encryption for valid privacy, and the criminals using it to get away with murder...

Yeah, you got that right. Most people would be amazed at some the laws that have been quietly passed that gives the government carte blanche over everything.

People think the U.S. is a free nation. It's not. You may be allowed certain privilages, but over all, you have no freedom.

To hell with the tea. Make them all wear concrete shoes and drop 'em in the water. The government has the notion that they can do whatever they want. They forget that WE are the ones they work for.

I wish these people would just go fist themselves, and let the internet roam and evolve freely. I just like things to be free, is there anything wrong with that?
