Routerbad
This is an example of what the ATI driver was doing to my computer. Other than this it caused a strange issue where upon mouseover it seemed as if the glass was shattering! Removal of the driver fixed it and I stopped getting performance alerts because of the driver module and CCC(Catalyst Control Centre). This was happening with everything that required GPU time to function(in other words, all of the games, and some UI elements). The Glass shatter effect was too annoying for me to take screenshots of(actually I got a screen of it but the computer BSODed on me before I got a chance to save.) sfalcon
I also have this problem on my Vista install. ATi 9800 Pro. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/472889-vista-beta2-ati-driver-bugs/#findComment-587637135 Share on other sites
fishrman
9800 Pro 128mb...no problems. If you're having them issues still, bug it - providing you know how, and are a member of the Tech Beta/TAP/MSDN/etc.... Longhorn Tony
Yeh i have the same problem. I installed the ATI Catalist for Windows Vista of ATI's website. And now it wont run Counter-Strike Source. I have a ATI Radeon 9600 Atlantis (128mb) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/472889-vista-beta2-ati-driver-bugs/#findComment-587637267 Share on other sites
Routerbad
I reported it with ATI and Microsoft, after removing the driver everything worked perfectly. Another thing I noticed that was strange was that Vista thinks my video card has 384 MB of video memory. gadean
Did you happen to take a screenshot of the glass "breaking"? I'm curious as to how it looks. Also, if you would, please offer a link to high resolution images next time. I can barely make out the problem in the images you provided. I'm curious as to how it looks. Also, if you would, please offer a link to high resolution images next time. I can barely make out the problem in the images you provided. If you had ever played Chess Titans on Vista it would be obvious what the problem is. Look at how 3d objects are textured. I'm pretty sure I stated before that I got a BSOD before I got a chance to save the glass breaking screenshot. If not, that's what happened. If you want to see them at higher resolution then stop by rather than post pumping :p . What I will do is ake another screen of Chess Titans after I removed the driver, so everyone can see what it should look like. Here you go! As you can see, the reflections are rendered properly just the textures are screwy. gadean
I'm pretty sure I stated before that I got a BSOD before I got a chance to save the glass breaking screenshot. Wow, relax there. :D So let me get this straight - you saw some weird artifacts, took some screenshots, and then you got a BSOD? Was this a one-time occurance? If it was I'd call it a minor problem that probably doesn't need this much attention drawn to it. (maybe it was a cooling issue, a minor memory fault, the list goes on) If it's a persistant bug then that would give you the opportunity to take a screenshot of this glass shattering effect, now wouldn't it? You didn't specify this in your post. If you want to see them at higher resolution then stop by rather than post pumping :p . Please don't joke around about post pumping. Maybe there are other users who wish to see this. Routerbad
no problem, but don't criticise my post without even paying attention to what I say and then tell me you can't see the problem because its too small Anyway, but I did put a larger picture up there for anyone who needs it. As I have stated before, it would have been a one time occurrence because I uninstalled the driver shortly after having the problem. I wish I had gotten a creenshot of the glass thing and I might try recreating it just to post it here :| Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/472889-vista-beta2-ati-driver-bugs/#findComment-587639501 Share on other sites
heywire
I saw the same exact issue playing Need for Speed: Underground 2 on an ATi x1300. Using the Catalyst drivers seem to have caused the issue, as stated before, uninstalling resolved the issue. The other thing I was noticing was that as I moved my mouse across the screen, there were a few spots where it would show some "static" around the mouse cursor. The Catalyst drivers on my XP install work flawless. M.F.D.K
I don't have that problem mate, infact i haven't had any problems with the ATI Beta 2 drivers, i never install the Catalyst software, so maybe you lot that are having problems might wana try not to install Catalyst but instead use the old classic device manager to update the ATI drivers and maybe that way you won't have any problems ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/472889-vista-beta2-ati-driver-bugs/#findComment-587647479 Share on other sites
Routerbad
I just did that, on a fresh vista install. I'll keep an eye on the performance monitor to see if it causes any problems.
