AC3Filter is a high quality free audio decoder and processor filter. It allows media players to playback movies with AC3 and DTS audio tracks. Also it can process any audio track, much of processing options allows to adjust the sound in almost any way. It is possible to upmix any audio source to 6 channels. Filter can do multi-channel and digital (SPDIF) output. It can encode any audio source to AC3 on-the-fly and send it over SPDIF to the receiver.

* ACM codec is now included into the package

* Tab labels are now translatable

* All languages available so far integrated

* Avoid poEdit '\r' warning when creating a translation file

* Warning messages about dangerous options

* Loud noise was possible after output format switch or SPDIF state change

* Audio skips problem fixed once more

WHAT ?!!? thats the first time I've heard that, . . so what do you use? for custom gain levels, matrix seperation, spdif settings, and other ac3 enhancements and ouput filtering.

Media player classic + AC3filter + Haali Media Splitter + CoreAVC1.3 + FFDshow + custom tweaks = excellent media experience

btw . . I wish CoreAVC would update to support gpu acceleration soon, those 1080p hddvd, and bluray rips are pretty taxing even to high end systems

I've had built-in codecs (WMV, some AVIs, etc) that just stopped working over time for no apparent reason (files would simply not play anymore, or not getting sound, things like that)...installing AC3Filter fixed it. Good enough for me, so I keep up with its updates.

For output sound, it gives you lots of options like 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, etc. What option should I choose for a headset/headphones? I tend to use my 5.1 setup during the day and headphones at night and I do not know which output to choose for headphones.

Headphones are 2/0 Stereo. Unless you have a subwoofer in your headphones. :p
