Question about music genres

So I have been seeing allot of music labeled house, but I really can not figure out what house music is supposed to be! I also can not determine what the Trance genre is supposed to be either! If someone could explain what these two are supposed to be and/or post examples of both I would appreciate it much!

House and Trance music do have distinctive characteristics which you can pick out to help label them appropriately. Although, both those categories are quite vague in themselves. I'd say look at the bass line and trance has a lot of synth lead nonsense.

If you're not sure, I'd say just check the record out on discogs. Might even be worth selling it there if you're not already!
