Resistance 3 reviews roll in....

So I finally got around to beating the SP campaign of Resistance 3 tonight. I know the first 2 games were not all that popular among gamers, so this may not hold that much weight with some, but it was BY FAR the best game out of the trilogy. And honestly it was one of the more enjoyable FPS's I have played on the consoles in quite some time. I really, really loved having a weapon wheel at my disposal. Meant not having to worry about which guns I was carrying, as I had them all. I also really enjoyed the somewhat old school mechanic by today's standards of having to find health and not having regenerating health. There were a whole lot of times it really made firefights that much more tense as I would be super low on health and had to rely on being strategic and smart rather than just going off in a corner of having my health come back. And it needs to be said, graphics were pretty damn phenomenal, and I played the entire game in 3D, and the 3D really was done great.

Have yet to even check out the MP, which I definitely plan on doing actually.

A very, very solid 8 out of 10. Very much a worthy exclusive for the PS3, and a damn good FPS.

What is it like going back to non-regenerative health through the whole game?

I have always enjoyed the Resistance games for what they are, but playing the demo it felt odd, I kept dying too, lol.

I mean I've played some hard'ish games to get some Platinums, but without any sort of regeneration and no proper cover mechanic and the constant hunt for health packs for even the slightest mistake of poking my head out, I just wasn't having that much fun with it.

It also had an annoying habit of surrounding me with enemies while I was busy trying to fight the ones infront, which if I survived became a hunt for a health pack, which usually lead to dying.

Though it definitely looks nicer than the previous games, I wish they had gone back to a more R1 health system though, maybe I will just go out and rent it instead of keeping it on my Christmas list, without the on-line co-op and just a generic'ish MP it might be worth getting a game I will get more out of.

I actually talked about the health. ;)

So I personally enjoyed it. Definitely made it a bit more challenging I thought.

Once again me and yahtzee pretty much agree. I do not pay much attention to the story in games, i freely admit this, but if I did, yeah, it definitely is very reminiscent of Half Life 2, which as he said, might as well steal from the best.

It is the gunplay and gameplay that make the game though. Really do. (Y)

I picked this up second hand for ?9, online pass is used, and I think I'll hold off on buying one and just enjoy the SP experience first. Not sure how multiplayer is these days.

    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
