[Guide] DD-WRT on SamKnows WNR3500

Hey guys I happen to come across a way to run DD-WRT on my SamKnows Netgear WNR3500 router. The firmware that come with this router is junk and is plagued with connection issues both wired and wireless. I did a bit of research today and I was able to get DD-WRT installed and working without a problem. Here is a simple guide on how to get it working.

Here is a picture of my router and from what I have read some people have different routers:

Step One: Disconnect all devices except for one Desktop/Laptop connected via Ethernet

Step Two: Download all the needed files for your installation, first you need to download this FILE to flash your router so you can install DD-WRT (file needs to be extracted first). Download this FILE as well, this is the actual DD-WRT firmware and is the most recent version. (Extract file first)

Step Three: Disconnect all other devices from the router with the exception of your computer you are going to use for this firmware flash, find your default gateway by running command prompt and typing ipconfig

Step Four: Do a 30/30/30 Hard Reset, instructions can be found HERE

Step Five: Once the router comes back on login to the router GUI usually, now on the left side of the page look for "Router Upgrade" browse for the first file you download (ddwrt.chk) once the router completes the update close your browser and do another 30/30/30 hard rest.

Step Six: When the router comes back online got to the default gateway and setup a username and password for your router. At the top go to Administration>Firmware Upgrade, set "After flashing, reset to" Reset to Default settings. Browse for the second file you downloaded and extracted (dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_big) now press upgrade. (This may take several minutes)

Step Seven: After the upgrade is complete do another 30/30/30 hard reset and once that is complete you are free to configure your fresh "new" router :) I hope this has helped in someway, please let me know by posting below ;)

If you run in to any problems, let me know and I will do my best to help or find the answer for you :)
