You realise that just suggests *more* people would pay $1000 for D3, not less?

Not necessarily. Less people may like the direction of D3 vs. PoE. The point is people are willing to ditch D3 and pay 1000$ for some no name game.

My issue with the 'online al the time' thing is that in NZ we have still got capped internet and the largest plan here at most ISP's for a reasonable price is 80GB. So I dont know how much data Diablo 3 will use but with the game, email, normal web traffic etc 80GB may not be enough.

Also if they are eventually or will straight away start charging for access to the servers to be able to play like the do for WoW, then shouldnt the game be free? I mean they will make a truckload off the monthly subscriptions for access to the servers to play the game, and charging for the game itself seems rude. Yes they need to be compensated for their time and expertise and IP, but surely with potentially hundreds of thousands if not millions of people playing the game the world over, they would make more than enough from the subscriptions.

If I have to pay to play, then I expect to not pay for the game, if I play the game locally and have no need to connect to their servers then I expect to pay for the game. Will be waiting before buying, which sucks as I really liked and still play Diablo 2

People are quite capable of playing more than one game of a single genre, though. Those who would spend $1000 on PoE probably wouldn't find it difficult to spend $60 on D3, and vice versa.

(Note: I have no issue with PoE, both games are pre-release so I withhold judgement).

It's possible, but I know for me I stay to 1 game per genre at any given time.

ie) If playing RIFT I don't play WoW, and vice versa. If play CS I don't play BF and vice versa.

MMOs I can totally comprehend (I want to play SWTOR, but am still playing WoW) - they're expensive and time consuming. Most other games generally aren't so much - however, to be fair to you, that is totally down to users.

I remember being hugely into rats maps in CS at one time :)

Anyway, I say good luck to PoE. I am sure there is still room for many games of this style.

So what exactly are the options (can ya list them or link to a page) to help increase the % on the reveal.diablo3.com page?

Also, randomly noticed on page 1; Release date still says TBA, how dare you with all this excitement ;)

According to the site, it says that "liking and sharing" is how to increase the %. So make a banner, share it on FB have everyone like it, and go and start liking other peoples banners.

That doesn't mean much. Blizzard has a lot of Anti-Fans. People who keep playing WoW while complaining that it's the worst game ever and talking about how the next competing game will be the one that beats it. People that play SC2 and keep insisting that BW is a better game (it is) and that SC2 sucks and that Blizzard ruined everything. Yet they still play, they still donate to their favorite players, they still watch, they still book trips and attend tournaments and pay for Pay-Per-View tournaments. Complaining the whole time. So when someone tells me "Well I'm not buying this Blizzard game because this free game is better and is what [blizzard Game] should have been." it doesn't mean much.

I've played the D3 beta for a couple months now. Obviously not playing it every day but every time they do a patch and a character wipe I run through the beta once more to see any changes and things like that. I'm really looking forward to it, it's very different from Diablo 2 in a lot of ways, but the overall feel of the game is the same. The atmosphere of the game is the same and as a Diablo 2 player I can jump right into it and know what's going on.

I hadn't heard of PoE until this thread, and after doing some asking around neither had any of my coworkers or any of my gamer friends. Looking at the screenshots it looked like a passable Diablo clone with more of a Titan Quest art style. I looked at screenshots, I watched some videos, it looked kind of fun, so I got beta access and played a bit. It's fun, it's better than I thought it would be, but there isn't really anything that sets it apart from other games in the genre and it's not as fluid and responsive as I'd like. Overall I was pleasantly surprised though. So I personally won't be shunning D3 in favor of it or recommending it to anyone over D3 or Torchlight 2. I think it would make a good alternative though for people who are shy about the $60 price tag of new games from big developers.

Got Beta today, but download taking forever.

The MoP download only took like 2-4 hours for me. While the D3 download taking much longer, even with it being a tad smaller than 1/4th the size. Any idea?

Nevermind. seems the servers were down when I started my DL. So when they came back up it finished as quick as I thought it would.

Lucky. The MoP beta download crawled for me, and I have a fairly quick connection.

Hi, could somebody explain to me what Diablo III actually is? I've never played a Diablo game before and watching the videos all i see is a few cinematics, some character stats and a few things getting chopped up.

Is it an MMO or single player (seems both from what i read but are the environments seperate or can you SP charcters be used in MP)? Is the idea to progress through the game like Witcher 2 but with a more top down perspective with elements of WOW (quests, character classes, specific skills etc) or is it more like a final Fantasy thing.

Im not looking for War an peace, just a primer for somebody who has never played a Diablo game before.

There is no 'offline' mode in D3. You can play single player online, in a closed game, by yourself. Most people play online in a group. It isn't an MMO, really, because its not massively multiplayer in the same 'game'. You are limited to 4 players per game in D3.

Basically the point of the game is to get better loot. Always. And to progress your level. If you're looking for similar games - Torchlight, Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest are a few.

Thanks,

Sooo does it mean hours of raiding to get the best loot like WOW, or would i be able to jump in and out withough screwing up somebody elses game?

Really think of it as a Single Player. (ignore the fact of Online Game for a moment). You can complete the whole game solo. Diablo isn't anything like WoW [per multiplayer experiene]. There are no '5 man; 10/25 raids in Diablo'. You can do everything with 2,3 or up to 4 people. Just because there are 'bosses' don't think there are dungeons involved (like WoW). It is a lot more action game. You are going to find mobs every 100 yards. Or nor like WoW where you have to travel by a Flight Point, or mount or even a teleport to get to a place and there is downtime.

just check youtube for Patch 16 videos, you'll get the idea pretty quick.

is the XFX Radeon 6870 fine to play Diablo III on max settings, Just curious?, I have good cpu, and memory 16GB Ram.

Nevermind, I look at the Blizzard website for Diablo III my card saids High Performance so I should be available to use max settings for the game more then likely.

Blizzard inviting more than a quarter of a million additional prerelease testers into role-playing game ahead of full release next month.

Blizzard is inviting more than a quarter of a million additional testers to try out Diablo III ahead of the game's release next month, the company announced on its forums last night.

Blizzard is presently dispatching 275,000 Diablo III beta keys to opt-in testers, and gamers can check their Battle.net account to see if they've received a license. If selected, players can download the beta client and hop into the game in front of its May 15 release date.

Blizzard warned that Diablo III beta testers may experience a series of issues related to the "large amount of invites" it is sending.

"Keep in mind that with such a large amount of invites for our test hardware we fully expect a strong possibility of stress test issues, such as an inability to log in, disconnections, and potential lag/latency," reads a line from the statement. "We'll also be testing our queuing system, which you may see when attempting to enter a game."

Diablo III will launch next month without its multiplayer player-versus-player arena component. That part of the game will be delivered digitally to gamers at a later date via a patch.

Diablo III is the first title in the series since 2001's Diablo II: Lord of Destruction expansion and will add a variety of new features, character classes, and a new auction house system designed as "a new way for the company to pull revenues from the game."

Just going to post this..

It may be an error, but those who couldn't get in because of the closed beta, now can. Anyone can sign in...

That would be awesome, but I doubt it'll last. Unless Blizz is literally going to just open the flood gates until the end of the beta period. In which case, sweet.

Also, we who are not in the beta would need a client to download to test this error out :)

    • This is about the EU given consumers options, Apple is all about not giving options and locking you into its own services, this hurts Apple far more than it hurts the EU market because it makes Apple products look less appealing by Apple refusing to offer its own service because they have to give options to rivals, the end results are consumers might look at alternatives like Android. It's a game Apple can't really win when there are alternatives and Apple will in time change course on this, until then, let Apple hurt themselves in the EU market.
    • Microsoft unveils new Surface Laptop with improved trackpad, Snapdragon X2, and more by Taras Buria Microsoft's new Surface Laptop Ultra generated a lot of buzz earlier this month, but in addition to its most powerful laptop with an NVIDIA chip, Microsoft also has a more affordable laptop lineup, which has been waiting for an update for quite a while. Today, Microsoft announced the eighth-generation Surface Laptop. The new Surface Laptop is powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus and X2 Elite processors. These chips offer faster CPU performance, up to 58% faster graphics, and 80 TOPS Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for on-device AI processing. Like the previous models, these chips retain their great energy efficiency, and Microsoft says that buyers can expect up to 20 hours of work on a single charge. The laptop is available in two sizes: 13.8-inch and 15-inch. You will have a hard time finding visual differences between the new and previous models, as Microsoft is not taking any major design leaps, except for the new Jade color, which may look familiar to Surface Laptop 5 owners. Other colors include Platinum, Black, and Dune. The 15-inch variant got a higher-resolution display. It is a 3,270 x 2,180 resolution screen with a pixel density of 262 ppi (the 13-inch model has a 201 ppi density) and a maximum brightness of 600 nits SDR and HDR. Unlike the Surface Pro 12th-gen, which is available with optional OLED displays, the Surface Laptop sticks with IPS, a 1,300:1 contrast ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Another notable change in the Surface Laptop 8 is its trackpad. It now provides haptic feedback when you perform various actions in apps and the operating system. It is a relatively new feature that Microsoft brought to Windows 11 in recent updates, and it is only available on certain devices, such as the Logitech MX Master 4, Surface Slim Pen 2, the upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra, and now the Surface Laptop 8. The new Surface Laptop with the new Surface Pro Like its tablet-shaped sibling, the new Surface Laptop is notably more expensive. It starts at a $1,599 for a 13.8-inch configuration with a 256GB SSD and 16GB of RAM. However, in the US, the base model has double the storage while keeping the same price. Available configurations include up to 64GB of memory and up to 2TB SSD (user-removable PCIe Gen4). The Surface Laptop 8 is now available for purchase on the official Microsoft website.
    • Microsoft announces 12th-gen Surface Pro with Snapdragon X2 processors by Taras Buria So far, 2026 has been rich in Surface announcements. Microsoft started with a fresh lineup of Surface for Business devices powered by Intel's new Core Ultra 300 processors. Then the company revealed the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop with NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor. Now, it is time for new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models with Qualcomm processors. Microsoft's original Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X1 chips debuted in late May 2024. Two years later, Microsoft is finally updating the lineup with new models featuring Snapdragon X2 processors. The 12th-gen Surface Pro continues the well-established formula of Microsoft's flagship tablet, and Microsoft is not even changing colors, as the tablet will be available in three colors: Dune, Black, and Platinum. The most important changes are mostly hidden inside. Microsoft switched from the Snapdragon X1 to the new Snapdragon X2, which promises up to 53% faster graphics performance than the previous generation and up to 15.5 hours of battery life. The built-in NPU is also much more powerful, and it can run at up to 80 TOPS for on-device AI processing. Like before, the new Surface Pro is available with a 13-inch IPS display, and Microsoft is still offering OLED as a separate, more expensive configuration. Speaking of configurations, the Surface Pro will be available with a 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus or a 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite. Microsoft expanded the available RAM configurations to 64GB (previously 32GB was the maximum), while storage remains unchanged at 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of user-replaceable PCIe Gen4 SSDs. The new Surface Pro and the Surface Laptop Other specs remain mostly unchanged. The computer has the same 1440p Windows Hello webcam, two USB4 ports for charging, data, and display output, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, dual speakers, and compatibility with Surface Pro Signature and Flex keyboards. With that said, there is one very important aspect of the Surface Pro that changed significantly, and it is the price. While the previous-gen Surface Pro launched at $999 for the base configuration, in 2026, the entry-level Surface Pro with Snapdragon X2, 16GB of memory, and 256GB will set you back an eye-watering $1,499. To sweeten the pill, Microsoft is running a limited-time promotion where Surface Pro buyers can get a free Surface Pro 13-inch Keyboard. The promo runs from June 16 through June 30. The new Surface Pro is available now on the official Microsoft Store website.
    • MakeMKV 1.18.4 Beta by Razvan Serea MakeMKV is a format converter, otherwise called "transcoder".
