I see a crashing of servers (if WoW is any indication) when this goes live for download and is playable afterward.

I played the last WoW xpac at midnight and there were zero problems related to server stability. If WoW is an indication of anything it's that Blizzard knows how to handle a high server load release.

To be fair, the last release of the last WoW xpac is going to be nothing compared to the amount of people starting diablo up. At least judging by how many already seem to be on the bandwagon.

To be fair, I think your opinionated post is inaccurate. Source: my opinion. Whether you like WoW or not (I quit over 2 years ago), fact of the matter is millions still play - and love it enough to be on for release. Fact is, Blizzard does know how to handle heavy server loads, end of discussion..they've proved it over and over again. Just to reiterate, even if you're right, the other Xpacs might have been more popular, thus proving Blizzard has been handling large server loads for even longer ;)

edit: oh yeah, then there is the public beta...the whole point being a stress test for hardware.

I've heard rumors of WoW eventually going to a free to play/lower price per month subscription model. Can anyone elaborate on this?

probably something you should ask in the wow thread, also they have stated numerous times that if the games subscription base or model calls for it they would make the change however, they currently have no plans of doing so.

Do you guys know if I buy the physical copy of D3, can I download the game via blizzard digitally and use the physical copy code to redeem it? It's just my DVD-drive isn't working at the moment and I want the phyiscal copy of it.

yes you can once you get your key you will have the option to download a digital copy.

Fact is that time and again they have proven quite the opposite. 4 hour server queues is not handling it. Crashed login servers is not handling it.

Anyone else here play in the Beta and do the Fallen Star Quest?

I got to the skeleton king, but could not defeat him even after 10 tries lol

is it possible to solo him or do you need a group?

I think everyone did the Fallen Star Quest.. it's the very first one. Also, the very first time I did the beta I solo'd it as a monk. The king took a long time to kill, but I did it with very few close calls (I was level 11).

Then after that I just wanted to get achievements (I only got to play during public weekend), and went through and killed the king with all the classes (in groups, to make it faster).

However, yes the king is 100% soloable.

Troll maybe?

Completed every quest on every character (Beta Max several times over) never once died in the game.

How is it more convenient when you can download the digital copy when you purchase the DVD copy if i'm not wrong?

It doesn't make sense to me that a quick download is over 20% more expensive than the read DVD copy to be posted to my door?

Is there any advantage to the digital copy?

Weird. :)

Really the answer lies in what I said. Amazon sells it for less than the suggested retail price. Blizzard is promoting and selling the digital version on their website, which to many is convenient. Some (probably alot of) people bought it from them for the one stop shop experience.

Thats not to say that I agree with it (or really care since I bought the CE and spent 100 US).

It's convenient because you don't have to wait for it to arrive. You don't have to risk it being damaged. You don't have to worry about stock. You have it wherever you go. Also, Amazon sells things far cheaper than the MSRP which is what Blizzard would sell theirs for.

Do you receive a key with the physical copy that allows you to download a digital copy? So you can have both that way?

I believe so, however you still must wait for it to ship, then arrive. You must also wait to have the product key in your hands before you can proceed. With the digital it's all done the minute you hit pay now. It's like a Car or a Bus. Driving a car costs way way more than riding a bus, however a car is more convenient as you can hop in and go wherever you want whenever you want. In the end you still get to the same place, but one is way quicker.

So if for example Amazon ship it to me for release day, If I was to order online, I'd be paying ?12 more to be able to start playing at 00:01 that morning rather than 9am when my postie arrives? :p

Thanks, I just wanted to clear up what seemed crazy to me. :D

If a company selling their own product for more than third party is surprising to you, you need to visit Amazon.com... it will blow your mind.

Just a perspective point... say Blizzard sells Amazon 3 million copies of the game for ?30 each. And Amazon sells them for ?33. Well Blizzard wins because they just sold 3 million copies, and Amazon wins because they made ?3. Blizzard will keep teh price at suggested retail on their site as a conveniece to customers who want it straight from the source. If someone decides to buy it from Amazon, then Blizzard doesnt care since they already sold it TO Amazon. And if Amazon sells out who do they need to buy more from? Blizzard.

It's simple business economics, really. The fact you're surprised by it is the crazy thing. Happens everyday on almost every product.

Also, on the digital vs. physical copy issue, the physical disc is likely not the current, up-to-date code, you might have to endure some patching. The digital download version might bring down the current, up-to-date code and not require as much patching, if at all. Unless we are talking monster amount of patch (1+ GB as an example), probably not a huge deal for those on high speed.

False. They are both the exact same version. Encrypted and everything the same. The day one patch is less than 100mb.

    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
