So I have crashed out twice from waiting in the queue and have not seem to be able to find anything about this. Is this due to the servers going down while i am waiting?

They took down the servers, will be back up at 6:30EST or 3:30PDT. Didn't you get the memo? lol.

I got a guest pass from a friend of mine (thanks to the guys here who offered though!) and redeemed it. Downloading now (extremely slowly of course) so hopefully by the time I'm done the game servers will be a bit more...stable.

Also, click click click click. (even though you can just hold the left mouse button down and not keep clicking...lol)

Come to a forum where people share their opinions. Bitch about people sharing their opinions.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

The entire point of a forum is to allow people to discuss things, sharing my opinion of my disappointment of D3 was just my way of discussing the game with everyone else here, if someone isn't happy with my opinion then they could just ignore it instead of making a useless post to tell me they are not happy that I posted my opinion.

Glad to see that I was right not to support "always on DRM" for single player mode.

What on earth were you thinking, Blizzard? The amount of people who just want to play single player and can't because of the DRM is ridiculously stupid.

Some of you may have experienced this first hand, but if you've yet to suddenly go offline while playing Diablo 3, here's what happens. First, your game will lock up for a minute or so, then you'll be sent back to the character selection screen.

According to Eurogamer, at this point you'll log back in and find that you've retained all gold, experience and items ? no penalties there. Once you get back into the game, you'll start from your last checkpoint.

The decision to require a constant internet connection initially received some blowback from the community, but it would seem it's not as bad as initially thought, at least in one regard. Eurogamer even notes that being booted back to the character selection screen didn't happen every time ? occasionally the game would resume as if no disconnect even occurred.

Sorry, any interruption because of the online requirement is more than a paying customer should have to go through. Not to mention, the quote doesn't really address what happens when the servers die.

The fact that it stops your gameplay, even temporarily, while your single player games tries to connect to an internet server is just baffling. It's hideous game design - if EA had done that, there would be talks of boycotting. Because it's Blizzard, it's a good idea apparently.

********.

Bad game design is bad.

A buddy of mine let me play on his wife's account....

Definitely not my type of game. Finished up to

the Skeleton King

with him, and was thoroughly bored. He was loving it, but I had to "bear a grin" so to speak. He really wants me to buy it, and I really don't want to. I don't know how to tell him, :/.

Something about endless mobs, and hack'n'slash is just so droll and mind-numbing. Back in the day, I never bothered with Diablo, was too busy with Age of Empires, WC, and SC.

I guess that is probably why I don't see the appeal in this, I wasn't one who waited 12 years for it.

Ugh...how do I let him know...

If you didn't mention he had a wife, I might think you two were together or something judging by the way you're asking.

Seriously, just tell him it's not something you take interest in enough. No sense in you buying a game you don't like, or worse: buying a game you don't like, and being dragged throughout the whole dang thing. Trust me, I've been there before when I tried getting into Mass Effect. Sucked donkey balls.

It's still Activision. I don't see much of a difference between EA and Activision. Just because Blizzard is huge and supposedly "independent" of Activision's usual douchebaggery doesn't mean much these days apparently.

Don't blame Blizzards crap on Activision, Activision is horrible, but lets not pretend this wouldn't have happened without them.

Anyway, I can still log onto my European servers, and my character is still not there. I try to log onto the American servers to see if Blizzards buggy code somehow screwed up and placed my character there despite me changing from the default American servers(in europe, a common problem, while americans defaulted to europe...) to europe and then created the character. But then on the American server all I get is 3003.

If they screwed up I fully expect them to be able to move my character as I don't want the American lag in my single player game, I don't want to replay all the way to the exit of the spider cave to save the old woman, and they screwed it up.

another funny thing about always online and online managed gaming, sometimes you need to leave the house for a while to pick people up. and when you get back and you have cleared half a wilderness and you where paused there. well by the time you get back you have been disconnected and your progress is reset back to the last checkpoint or rather entrance/exit. add to list of stuff I wouldn't have to deal with on a offline SP mode.

Yeah firey, I'm sure Offline SP would have caused Blizzard far more support trouble than this crap is....

well to bad you are gonna miss out on a awesome game.

So American servers are back up and my suspicions are correct, their buggy game created my character on the American servers after I specifically changed to Europe and logged back in...

Quality Blizzard, Quality. so instead of the 70ms ish ping I had on Europe on the char I made this morning. I now have to play my hero at a minimum of 250 ping, when it doesn't occasionally go to 1000 and 2000 occasionally for a few minutes.

I'm guessing they'll completely ignore my request to have my character moved, with claims that it can't be done or something silly.

I feel bad for you guys, but... every single time I've gone to play I have been able to login.. My characters are all correct every time. The spot is saving correctly, and I am getting little to no lag in game. I have not encountered any server issues whatever. So, everything I said I still stand by as I am not experiencing any negatives thus far.

Played for a 3 hour stretch during the period where everyone was saying the servers were going up and down.. so not sure what to say.

@Hawkman, it is less support as is. There is one set of problems to adress, one set of issues that multiple people are seeing. They fix the server issues for them boom all is good.

There is no need to try and troubleshoot what joe blow did while in a single player campaign that broke his game. There is no trying to work with Betty to understand what the problem is (possibly spending hours). Instead, it's fix server bugs, and add capacity, boom everyone is fixed.

Just sayin'

ATT is to blame for the Diablo3 problems... they picked the worst backbone provider/hosting provider they could to partner with for this... They should have gone with level3 they are solid and awesome.

They prolly fell for a smooth salesmen's promise of having lower cost per util. and thought it would be cheaper then L3 so they went with it... only it will end up costing them 4x as much as L3 and have lower capacity.

ATT notes for hosting companies they can change the TOS at any time and you are agreed to using them for 2 year minimum contract duration. In order to get lower rates you must agree to changes that could screw you over in the end big time. This is another reason any reputable datacenters do not use them. They are a joke.

Good IP backbones:

level 3

twtelcom

abovenet

verizon

xo

cogent

HE

zayo

soooo many others they could have chosen that would give them outstanding service and better value and they choose the worst possible one.... yucckkkk....

bliz really doesn't know what they're doing...

I'm partnered with InetU hosting (very high end enterprise grade provider with NO NETWORK DOWNTIME)(they host pokemon.com, lands of america, CREDO action group, and Luby's websites as well as tons of others) They use level3, Abovenet, and Verizon and they do really really good with those 3.

If they would have went with InetU hosting then they would have not had any of these problems at all...

There are so many better hosting providers out there they could have chosen and they chose ATT of all places!!!! arrrg!

well blizzard enjoy it while it lasts!!

Lol! When it comes to him and video games that he loves, if I shoot it down, he will defend it like crazy and berate me for not liking it. He's basically been my gamer buddy for like 7 years now. :p

Anyway, I slowly backed off vent and told him I have way to much to do this week (which is the truth) to buy the game right now.

Middle/High school? Gen X was in college when we played these! ;)

I had already finished HS by the time D2 was out, but I know a lot of the people in Neowin are a little younger than I am :p Diablo 2 cost me one of my first good jobs lol. I just couldn't stop playing that damn game during the time.

Zappa. Tell him to get to Nightmare mode and then let you try. Normal mode is actually quite dull. There isn't a lot of strategy needed as the mobs are weak. After you beat it once, the mobs start getting immunities to certain types of attacks , they get stronger, and there becomes more of them. The game ramps up the further you go. But please, don't take Normal Mode as grounds to judge the whole game by.

But ya, it certainly isn't for everyone. But you might end up having more fun in the later modes, as they offer more of a challenge.

But you have to ask yourself, do I like to just go "click click click click click click.... " :p

This is pretty much it, I think I clicked more in the 3 hours I played this morning than I have in a week of computer use haha.

This is what I meant by grinding, I know it is not the typical grinding found in MMO's etc. but I still consider just masssive amounts of clicking grinding so to speak. But yeah not your typical grinding. I may check it out down the road,

    • This is about the EU given consumers options, Apple is all about not giving options and locking you into its own services, this hurts Apple far more than it hurts the EU market because it makes Apple products look less appealing by Apple refusing to offer its own service because they have to give options to rivals, the end results are consumers might look at alternatives like Android. It's a game Apple can't really win when there are alternatives and Apple will in time change course on this, until then, let Apple hurt themselves in the EU market.
    • Microsoft unveils new Surface Laptop with improved trackpad, Snapdragon X2, and more by Taras Buria Microsoft's new Surface Laptop Ultra generated a lot of buzz earlier this month, but in addition to its most powerful laptop with an NVIDIA chip, Microsoft also has a more affordable laptop lineup, which has been waiting for an update for quite a while. Today, Microsoft announced the eighth-generation Surface Laptop. The new Surface Laptop is powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus and X2 Elite processors. These chips offer faster CPU performance, up to 58% faster graphics, and 80 TOPS Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for on-device AI processing. Like the previous models, these chips retain their great energy efficiency, and Microsoft says that buyers can expect up to 20 hours of work on a single charge. The laptop is available in two sizes: 13.8-inch and 15-inch. You will have a hard time finding visual differences between the new and previous models, as Microsoft is not taking any major design leaps, except for the new Jade color, which may look familiar to Surface Laptop 5 owners. Other colors include Platinum, Black, and Dune. The 15-inch variant got a higher-resolution display. It is a 3,270 x 2,180 resolution screen with a pixel density of 262 ppi (the 13-inch model has a 201 ppi density) and a maximum brightness of 600 nits SDR and HDR. Unlike the Surface Pro 12th-gen, which is available with optional OLED displays, the Surface Laptop sticks with IPS, a 1,300:1 contrast ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Another notable change in the Surface Laptop 8 is its trackpad. It now provides haptic feedback when you perform various actions in apps and the operating system. It is a relatively new feature that Microsoft brought to Windows 11 in recent updates, and it is only available on certain devices, such as the Logitech MX Master 4, Surface Slim Pen 2, the upcoming Surface Laptop Ultra, and now the Surface Laptop 8. The new Surface Laptop with the new Surface Pro Like its tablet-shaped sibling, the new Surface Laptop is notably more expensive. It starts at a $1,599 for a 13.8-inch configuration with a 256GB SSD and 16GB of RAM. However, in the US, the base model has double the storage while keeping the same price. Available configurations include up to 64GB of memory and up to 2TB SSD (user-removable PCIe Gen4). The Surface Laptop 8 is now available for purchase on the official Microsoft website.
    • Microsoft announces 12th-gen Surface Pro with Snapdragon X2 processors by Taras Buria So far, 2026 has been rich in Surface announcements. Microsoft started with a fresh lineup of Surface for Business devices powered by Intel's new Core Ultra 300 processors. Then the company revealed the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop with NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor. Now, it is time for new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models with Qualcomm processors. Microsoft's original Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X1 chips debuted in late May 2024. Two years later, Microsoft is finally updating the lineup with new models featuring Snapdragon X2 processors. The 12th-gen Surface Pro continues the well-established formula of Microsoft's flagship tablet, and Microsoft is not even changing colors, as the tablet will be available in three colors: Dune, Black, and Platinum. The most important changes are mostly hidden inside. Microsoft switched from the Snapdragon X1 to the new Snapdragon X2, which promises up to 53% faster graphics performance than the previous generation and up to 15.5 hours of battery life. The built-in NPU is also much more powerful, and it can run at up to 80 TOPS for on-device AI processing. Like before, the new Surface Pro is available with a 13-inch IPS display, and Microsoft is still offering OLED as a separate, more expensive configuration. Speaking of configurations, the Surface Pro will be available with a 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus or a 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite. Microsoft expanded the available RAM configurations to 64GB (previously 32GB was the maximum), while storage remains unchanged at 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of user-replaceable PCIe Gen4 SSDs. The new Surface Pro and the Surface Laptop Other specs remain mostly unchanged. The computer has the same 1440p Windows Hello webcam, two USB4 ports for charging, data, and display output, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, dual speakers, and compatibility with Surface Pro Signature and Flex keyboards. With that said, there is one very important aspect of the Surface Pro that changed significantly, and it is the price. While the previous-gen Surface Pro launched at $999 for the base configuration, in 2026, the entry-level Surface Pro with Snapdragon X2, 16GB of memory, and 256GB will set you back an eye-watering $1,499. To sweeten the pill, Microsoft is running a limited-time promotion where Surface Pro buyers can get a free Surface Pro 13-inch Keyboard. The promo runs from June 16 through June 30. The new Surface Pro is available now on the official Microsoft Store website.
