New monsters and probably new items.  I don't see an ETA anywhere though.  Also, increased level cap.

Seems like they are going to have to rescale all the various act difficulties to take into account the new act.  Considering the fact that the Diablo 2 expansion added 2 classes, this already seems like a smaller expansion overall.

Oh well.  I've really enjoyed playing D3 and have gotten a lot of hours of game play out of it.  The bad reviews especially on Amazon are hilarious.  People complaining because they only got 50-100 hours of gameplay with Diablo 3 as oppose to 500+ hours.  Get a life, folks.

Diablo 3 gave me a very enjoyable 15-20 hours of gameplay on the first difficulty play through which is more than most games provide at $60.  I think people just expected Diablo 3 to complete their lives and be playable for years and years and years...

I hope that this new Act provides at least 6-7 extra hours of gameplay.  From what I recall, the expansion for Diablo 2 was only 1 extra Act but it was about twice the size of the other Acts.

Well the cinematic for it looks great. Blizzard should make CGI movies for their games. I think they'd do extremely well.

Also the ETA is 2014. Will we see it in May? 2 years after the original game came out?

Also I still play D3 from time to time, I actually have over 100 hours into it somehow. It never felt like I played that much so the game can't be that bad right?

I'm at a bit of a point though.. my barbarian is approaching 200k dps and I can get a lot of ugrades to take it even further. But...all the upgrades that I can get would make my character look so extremely ugly. So I don't want to upgrade. I'm not sure what the folks at Blizzard were thinking with some of them. And not being able to dye legendary items is disappointing.

I agree with it sucking that you can't dye legendary items!

My Barbarian is only at about 70kdps.  My buddy and I were farming the stuff to make the Hellfire ring, but we just got bored of it all.  We've been playing hardcore characters and having a lot more fun with it.  I've died a few times on normal...lol../sigh.  Its fun but the further you get the more invested you are the more tragic the death is.  Feels a lot less like a grind though.  The song "Stay'in Alive" keeps repeating over and over in my head.

I would give hardcore exactly one death. I don't have the patience for that kind of thing. :s

I am looking forward to the expansion. I can't believe they only added 1 character though. :\

Yeah even from the original launch i was a bit disappointed with the Class options. While there are still a few staples to the Series it just does not feel very robust. Even with the addition of the additional class.

Not enough content in the expansion to justify the price, in my opinion. And I was just starting to forget about Diablo 3 too. Such wasted potential.

As far as the Cost and Content debate i have seen elsewhere as well. For $39 for the basic package the Act better be pretty long compared to the current Acts in the game because all the other changes (except for the additional Class) will be offered as a Patch upgrade available to all players (the new loot, paragon, and other system upgrades) Whereas those who purchase the Expansion Set will gain access to the New Act, Class, Mystic, expanded Level Cap. and that about it.

Mystic?

And I think it should be $29.99 at the least.

Its not really about patience really... certainly not for everyone.  I see it more as an "arcade" style mode.  Look, you've probably been through Act I through Act IV a LOT of times by now, right?  What new content is there?  Basically the only thing really worth doing in the game is:

1. Complete the game

2. Beat the game on Inferno

3. Level each class

4. Grind for staff of herding

5. Grind for hellfire ring

For me, grinding level 60 paragon levels for gear is just plain boring.  Increasing the MP# just increases the HP, which just makes it take longer, which is just plain boring.  I did all that and have a Wizard and Barbarian at least in Set Gear/Legendaries . Sure, I could grind some more to get EVEN BETTER set gear/legendaries but all that will do is make it so I have to turn up the MP#.  Really, not much in the way of content from just doing level 60 grinding.

For me hardcore mode offers a rush that normal mode just doesn't bring.  Especially the boss fights.  Just don't worry about dying.  If you die what do you really lose?  You've already been through all the content over a dozen times anyway, I'm guessing.

They patch 1-2 times a year? The expansion should be free given the current (alpha/beta) state of the game.

I'd rather get in a public brawl with the developers of D3, til I get arrested, over actually playing D3... (Not joking at all...) I'd knock Cheng right the **** out.

Wyatt Cheng: Yeah. I think the ideal, which we?ll strive towards but may never reach. But the ideal is that the definition of perfect gear is different for every class. And even within the same class since people have different builds.

One thing I think about a lot, is how do we make it so Attack Speed is good for a lot of people, but not for everybody? That?s a tough design problem and we have some ideas, but can we apply that to everyone?

IT'S CALLED CAST SPEED YOU ****ING IGNORANT, UNTALENTED LOSER!

How the **** did these people become in charge of such a dominant franchise????

...

Yes, mentioning D3 makes me furious.

Why?  Because you only put 100's of hours of time into it instead of your expected 1000's hours of time?  I think your statements reek of immaturity but you are entitled to your opinion.

I think that Diablo 3 is a very well polished game and your "alpha/beta" comment is unwarranted unless you just consider all AAA titles that released to be utter ****.  Compared with other AAA titles being released, I'd put Diablo 3 near the top in terms of quality and the amount of gameplay hours present.

I suspect that you were hoping that Diablo 3 would return you to your "glory days" of Diablo 2 item farming.  Those days are over regardless of how good Diablo 3 would have/could have potentially been because everyone has different expectations from games these days.

Also,

Are you seriously calling a developer out because he wanted to call it Attack Speed and you want it to be called Cast Speed?  Are you for real?

I think he was saying that the solution to their problem is "cast speed", something they've already done in their other games. Why they're looking at stat balancing as something super complicated when it's not.

If you want to diversify gear then the only way to do that is to add more stats. If I'm not mistaken right now the only difference between a demon hunter piece of armor and a barbarian piece of armor is the primary stat. Besides that everything that makes a good piece of gear is the same. That of course doesn't take set bonuses into consideration, which most people don't uses full sets anyways.

I liked D3 when it came out, I played it quite a bit.  However I've been playing a lot of Torchlight 2 and I must say.. the online play of D3 is much better than TL2.. however I find TL2 a lot more fun.

I may buy the expansion when it comes out.. but right now it would be a low priority purchase.

I have loved all the games in the Diablo Series however, something I have never gotten into is Online game play. I do not have many friends (let along friends that play Diablo) so its always been a single player game to me, which makes replay ability low for me I play through it a few times with different characters and get bored. Diablo 3 lacks in the random generation department making most of the game identical for each runt hrough compared to how Diablo 2 did it.

I'm critical of many aspects of D3.  The fact that the levels are not random like Diablo and Diablo 2 does hurt the re-playability, I agree strongly with that.

I've played the game to death and can pick apart the gear stat elements, lack of an end game, lack of diverse builds for the classes, etc.  I'm also not pleased with some of the design decisions for the patches.  I think that the MP and Paragon systems (for example) are just designed to increase the amount of grind for players that just love to grind.  But there is not much in terms of rewards for that grind...its just...something to do.

I've played Skyrim to death and can pick it apart as well.  But that is just it, isn't it?  I've played these two games to death so they must not be all THAT bad, eh?  I suspect a lot of the reviewers especially on Amazon that have been especially critical of Diablo 3 also put more hours into it then they do on average for any other game.  I'm not sure what to tell these people....I'm sorry that Diablo 3 only took the place of three AAA titles instead of the 10x AAA titles you were expecting it to replace???

In my opinion, the best aspect of Diablo 3 has to be leveling up a class you have never played before.  Actually, just leveling in general is really rewarding for some reason.  Probably because getting new usable items is more frequent and you get new fireworks to play with every so many levels.  Hardcore is awesome for this.  Hardcore mode also has a more functional Auction House because for one there is no "real money" hardcore AH (so no pay-to-win), and also because there are so many people leveling hardcore characters that you can generally sell level 0-60 items and you can generally find 0-60 items.  The normal mode AH (on the other hand) is heavily skewed towards level 60+ items and the prices are ridiculous.

Are you seriously calling a developer out because he wanted to call it Attack Speed and you want it to be called Cast Speed?  Are you for real?

This question indicates to me that you know nothing about Diablo (as a franchise) and I won't be discussing the topic any further with you.

Diablo 3 would have been a fine and dandy game on it's own, if it were called anything other than Diablo 3. (I still wouldn't play it, but I'd have no reason to hate it.) But the fact is, it is the successor to Diablo 1, and Diablo 2, and thus it fails extraordinarily in many different aspects of the series. End of story.

Being a successor to another game =/= having to do exactly what the other games did. Nor exactly what you want. (Man, Assassin's Creed 3 would be awful if that were the required.)

Besides, D3 has been patched far more than "1-2 times a year". We're up to patch 8 so far, plus hotfixes, several of which have brought big changes.

But Shadrack has a point, that's what you sounded like, madd-hatter. So, how many hours did you play Diablo 3 for?

I think Diablo 3 is a great game, I've definitely received my moneys worth and then some. I've played it 10x longer than I've played TL2 and I only paid 4x the price. It's one of my 'goto' games when I'm bored of the other ones. I look forward to the expansion.

    • "just $100 per TB"? Just? Are we trying to make this seem like the new normal? Kinda weird to make it sound like that is not a ridiculously expensive asking price.
    • The reviews you refer to mean nothing. Where there is no journalism there is no reason to call the gaming media's opinion pieces "reviews". For GP games there is indeed a metric for success - increasing subscriptions. Which turns in revenue. The only circumstance in which subs do not rise when great is being released is a Game Pass system where the company is close to fully saturated with customers in a subscription. However, in that case as the theory goes you spend aplenty in all kind of games - from shady live service cash cows and customer offending agitprop crap in purple colours to robust and entertaining single player games. And keep a solid level of profitability. Ignoring the simply innocuous but mid games MGS has released primarily of the second kind.
    • Report: Microsoft to use AWS to help GitHub deal with a major surge in demand by Pradeep Viswanathan Thanks to the surge of coding AI agents, GitHub's usage has skyrocketed over the past 12 months. To meet this demand, GitHub started with a plan in October 2025 to increase capacity by 10x. However, by early this year, the company realized that it needed 30x scale. This rapid growth has caused severe strain on the platform's reliability, resulting in several small outages over the past few months. In April, GitHub published a long blog post explaining the steps it is taking to resolve these reliability issues. In the post, the company also confirmed that it is working toward a multi-cloud architecture for better resilience. Today, Business Insider reported that GitHub is turning to Amazon Web Services to help deal with a major surge in AI-driven coding activity. It is important to note that GitHub is still in the process of moving completely to the Azure cloud. The current plan is to move the platform fully to Azure by 2027 so that it can scale better as per developer demand. Therefore, the current decision to utilize AWS might be part of a short-term plan to meet immediate demand. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that GitHub is using multiple cloud providers with the following statement: For Microsoft, the decision highlights the operational pressure behind the AI boom. GitHub has to stay reliable for developers at a time when rivals such as Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, and other AI coding tools are gaining attention. And the decision to use AWS for computing capacity seems practical given the circumstances.
