I partially agree. It seems uncivilized and cruel.

But sending them to jail, and paying for their long sentences seems like a waste of tax money.

Especially in this economy.

edit: / addition: Apart from the fact that in the US sentencing someone to death means higher costs for the State than a regular imprisonment.

I'm all for the death penalty, I think that it is 100% justified, you kill someone in cold blood, you die yourself, a life for a life. I don't think of the death penalty as killing however, I consider it punishment. However, I don't think it should be used unless without a shadow of a doubt the person being put to death was 100% guilty. So I voted the Second one as I support the death penalty fully, but I don't think the executors should hold any fault in doing what they have been told to do.*

note* this only applies to the executors that kill the convicts, not convicts who take hits from higher orders, or kill someone for someone else.
