Wow not that far into the game and dying a lot already, Trying to kill this one big knight to get to an item that better be freaking amazing.

Sooner, did you ever play Demon Souls? There is a thing you will learn, some areas are not meant to be explored just yet :p I don't know though if Dark Souls has changed that up, and is just having everything level with you... but at least for the first one, there were places you have to visit later on once you become more powerful and a higher level.

This guy isn't that tough I am just having trouble finding room to fight him to avoid his attacks.

Goddammit can't beat Taurus Demon.

Easiest way seems to be, at start once he appears, turn around and run up the ladder to the left of the entrance. Drop onto him and hit him, then run to the other end of the walkway. When he chases after you, dodge his attack and run back to the ladder, rinse and repeat till dead.

Tried that a few times but he always get me. I'll keep trying.

So first my finger slipped and I killed the merchant close to the 1st boss. Then I am one melee attack away from killing the boss when suddenly my character has no stam and I die. So I'm like ok, I've made it through all the trash before the boss fine a few times in a row. So I am sniping the guys that throw fire bombs onto the bridge when out of no where a skeleton that had never come at me before starts hitting me after a firebomb connects. I roll away only to be pushed off by said skeleton and watch as 4000 souls and a humanity are washed down the drain. Was about ready to throw my controller at the screen. Though all of that is not as annoying as getting caught trying to run past the box because apparently all the space between him and the wall doesn't exist.

Yup, brutal :p

This game makes you memorize the levels. You have to just keep pushing through. Don't be too discouraged from losing souls, as they are easy to get. Once you get better, if this is like Demon Souls, you can run to other areas you have been too and wipe places out quicker.

My friend has a new goal in life... to kill the very first boss with just his broken sword. Read on the wiki that you get his weapon to use and something else... but supposed to be a 30 minute fight.

I'm having a hard time leaving the Demon Souls mentality at the door for this, and I keep forgetting I've respawned everything, or that the elevator didn't reset back to at the top of the tower.... thus leading me to just running straight into my death lol. But right now, I'm just playing around with the different classes... Thinking I might make my main a deprived.

lolwut?

Noooo. That's the hardest to start as

Pyro or Wanderer are good choices for beginners. Or a Sorcerer as Soul Arrow is pretty effective at making your game easier by sniping enemies. Of course, if you know where to go you can learn Soul Arrow as another class at the start of the game for 2000 souls, which I recommend doing and picking Pyro/Wanderer.

Starting classes only affect the start of the game though, as you progress you pick your own stats anyway.

I know, that is what I want :p

My class in Demon souls was a Royal. No shield, I just run around with wand and big ass sword. I use that big ass funnel hat that blocks half your screen and makes you take more damage, but makes your magic hurt more :p I like a challenge. Though, I haven't been able to beat New Game + on Demon Souls with that char due to how hard it is.

I'm gonna beat that Asylum Demon with the broken sword no matter how long it takes.

Good luck. Spent like an hour last night with a friend trying to.. If you do, start your character with the black flame bombs, they will give you a little edge, but if you fail, there goes your unique starting gift lol.

I'm trying to wrap my head around all the damn covenants, and which one I would want to join. The Grave Lord Covenant seems like it would be good fun.... but there are others that seem like they would be interesting as well... And if you progress too far, you miss your chance until new game +. But I like the way this game really punishes you with covenants. You break almost any covenant, and you are on the Book of Guilty, and thus, will be forever hunted by the Blade of Dark Moon covenant followers.

FINALLY got my order from Amazon yesterday. I say FINALLY only because I've been dying to play and my release-date delivery got pushed a day. Got a couple hours in and, as expected, am loving the hell out of it. I started off as a Thief but am now playing a Pyromancer. Funny thing - with my Thief, I tried 7 times to beat the Asylum Demon with my broken sword.

I had no idea there was a door in the room to enter.

Had to resort to YouTube for that one :(

I'm so sad I'm working the next 4 days (12 hour night shifts) because I really want to play!

First, can someone make an Official topic for this game? That way we can put our knowledge together.

Second, Man, this game is harder than the first. I've manage to make it to the gargoyles, but can't defeat them yet. Loving this game a lot though, and still can't stick with a hero. I have a Pyromancer, Warrior, and Wanderer that I have basically gotten all to the same area, just before the gargoyles. Yet I can't defeat them with any of my characters. I think I have to grind through the level more.

I love the drop system. Kill a battle axe enemy enough and you get their axe. :)

Yep this game is so good I'm just bummed that I'm still working on getting through Fallout 3 so I have to put more time to that one. But yeah, I knew I would like Dark Souls but it has exceeded my expectations. Well done.

I'll post more of my progress either tonight or tomorrow when I get to spend more time playing. Still working on my Pyromancer. One question I do have for the pyro: when you get to a bonfire, what does 'attune magic' do?

Attune magic should let you choose which spells you want to have equipped I believe. Example : You may have like 10 spells at one point, but can only memorize and keep 3 with you.

But, you won't come across any new spells for a good while.

    • Microsoft finally admits its default Windows 11 25H2, 24H2 action broke key legacy component by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. So far the company has acknowledged two known issues that have popped up after the release which include bugged-out Office apps as well as the Recycle Bin; though there could be more at play too. Speaking of bugs and issues, Microsoft seems to have finally acknowledged a problem that probably has been around for close to a year. That's because back in July of 2025 the company made a default change to the latest Windows 11 versions, wherein it switched to JScript9Legacy on Windows 11 24H2 and later releases. Hence following the release of version 25H2 in October 2025, JScript9Legacy also remained default-enabled. As a result there has been a compatibility issue ever since then. For those wondering, by switching to JScript9Legacy Microsoft intended to improve the security of modern Windows PCs by reducing vulnerabilities tied to legacy scripting like cross-site scripting (XSS), among others. XSS exploits can allow cyber-attackers to attach malicious code onto legitimate websites and use them to execute the code when a potential victim loads such a website. Hence the new JScript9Legacy engine enforced stricter execution policies and improved object handling, which should help mitigate such attacks. Microsoft today has published a new support article detailing the problem. Neowin spotted it while browsing. The company says that JScript global definitions and execution context may fail to persist across scripts, potentially breaking older dependent apps and web-based components that relied on this legacy behavior. In the article Microsoft has confirmed that the issue stems from its move away from the older jscript9.dll engine in favor of jscript9legacy.dll. As mentioned above, while the newer engine was designed to address vulnerabilities and strengthen security it also changes how JScript handles execution context. As a result functions and definitions loaded by one script could no longer remain available to subsequent scripts once execution ended. The company notes that some applications worked correctly on earlier Windows versions because the older JScript engine automatically retained global definitions and execution state between scripts. Under the newer model though that behavior is disabled by default causing certain legacy workloads and polyfill-dependent scripts to fail. Microsoft says it addressed the problem via the KB5077241 update though the fix had not been enabled automatically in the following updates. As such admins must explicitly turn on persistent JScript execution context using a Registry setting that the tech giant shared today. The configuration can be applied to individual processes or system-wide through the FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE registry key. The steps have been outlined below: Run the following command to create the feature control registry key: reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE" Under this key, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value. Configure the value as follows: To enable persistence for specific processes only: Set the value to 1 for each target process name. To enable persistence for all processes: Add * as the key name and set its value to 1. You can find the official support article here on Microsoft's website.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2.
