Windows Vista only just has more market share than Mac OSX? Damn that's gotta hurt :(

Now divide up OSX by versions like windows is... A single windows version and the one with least market share still has twice as much market as ALL of OSX :)

There are millions upon millions of people who use Linux everyday. They just don't know it - in fact you'd be surprised how many televisions and digital tv boxes for example run Linux and you'll never know it.

But people always quote the "Windows runs on desktops.."

On that same token, the same goes for windows ce. Or rather embedded now

(Other) Has more than linux? lolowned.

I can't imagine how it's possible that the various flavors of BSD, and other select UNIX-like/derivative OSs, have more share than the entirety of GNU/Linux type OSs (a sizeable OS ecosystem in its own right). It just doesn't sound right when I say it in my head...

can some one help im colour blind :( whats the stats in order of top to bottom used? :(

It's XP @ the top (the one in freefalling decline)

Win7 with strong, steady growth

Vista with gradual decline

Mac OS with vveerryy ssllooww growth

Other (dotted line), also with Mac OS-like growth

Linux @ the very bottom, with creeping losses

vista should of died long ago and also linux gets used way more then tht surly or is this home use only? cause most requital businesses use linu (bsd, centos ect) for their networks and ech network having 1-64 linuxs running

Next year will be the year of the linux desktop!

i hear this for last 2 decades ....

sorry but seeing W8 i don't think Linux has chance (in terms win the majority war) in forseeable future

there is still nothing 'complete' for game developers like MS DirectX and whole 'streamlined' suites around ...

Therefore we can possibly conclude that Vista is better than Mac's.

You could do that, but of course that would be stupid. It'd be like concluding that Windows XP was better than 7 up until somewhere in September 2011. (I use both OSes too. Not that working with either OS affects the ability to draw a logical conclusion from a graph.)

I don't think this chart is very accurate. I know for a fact that a huge number of corporate servers run Linux or some derivative. I know that at work most of our servers run Linux, and the ones that don't are virtual machines running on a Linux host OS. Many of our special needs client machines run a customized version of Redhat, and all of my home computers run Linux (And I don't dual boot). Given, all of the standard end-user PCs at work run Windows Vista/7, but I don't think the OSX/Linux representation on that chart is very accurate.

9 out of the top 10 hosting sites of last month did not run a Windows OS on their server. Google disallowed Windows from their corporate desktop machines, I could go on and on. I could understand a lower number, I could understand a "really" low number like 5%, but barely above 0%? Come on now, there's something going on with these charts.

Edit: Even Neowin is hosted with Apache webserver on a Unix OS.

It's because the chart is based on web client signatures that visit various web servers. Which of course is completely bogus but let's not bring facts into the table, that would confuse people.

For every Linux web server or corporate server there millions of home computers running windows. Saying the char s wrong because a lot of servers run onus is ridiculous. Add in the fact that for corporate server windows is actually a lot more common than linux. And even on web hosts Linux doesn't reign supreme alone, it has something like 60-65% yes, but windows also has around 30%. As for you running Linux at home, yeah you and a handful of other people is what makesnup that less than one percent, which happens to also be a much larger number of computersnusing Linux than the total number of Linux servers.

Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. The Tor software protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody from watching your Internet connection and learning what sites you visit, it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location, and it lets you access sites which are blocked. The Tor Browser Bundle lets you use Tor on Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux without needing to install any software. It can run off a USB flash drive, comes with a pre-configured web browser to protect your anonymity, and is self-contained. • Yes, it was amusing at the time because even then dbrand was well known for stealing the designs of products from other companies. That’s what they do.
