John Cusack in 'The Raven'

Relativity Media has unveiled the first trailer for The Raven, which stars John Cusack as romantic poet Edgar Allan Poe.

The film, from V for Vendetta director James McTeigue, follows the tortured writer as he is challenged to solve a series of murders based on his works.

The Raven also stars She's Out of My League actress Alive Eve as Poe's wife Virginia and Clash of the Titans star Luke Evans as Inspector Emmett Fields.

Cusack will next be seen opposite Jennifer Carpenter and Mae Whitman in Morgan O'Neill thriller The Factory.

The Raven is due out in cinemas on March 9, 2012.

Not too much of a stretch - he is credited as being one of the creators of the whole Detective Fiction genre with his 1841 The Murders in the Rue Morgue and its protagonist C. Auguste Dupin. Dupin was quite modern in his approach - today we'd call him a profiler.
