The people complaining about the ending of Mass Effect 3 are the same people that complained about Dragon Age 2 dumbing everything down and treating it's players like children. Bioware can't win.

There's dumbing down and then there's dumbing down. The recurring theme of Mass Effect is choice and the cause and effect of your decisions, in ME2 it has a massive impact on how the ending plays out. In ME3 the culmination of your choices barely affect characters that are brought back for cameos in this game.

It ends completely abruptly, the explanation you are given is nonsensical and the 3 games and over 100 hours in my case I've spent building relationships with these races and characters is for naught because you don't get any kind of closure, you don't get to see what all your choices in ME3 affect because you get 3 cookie cutter endings and an epilogue that has no bearing on the game other than mentioning the main character a bit.

I am very disappointed for the 100s of hours I have invested in this game I will probably never get full closure for all the characters, I replayed ME1 and 2 multiple times to try and save everyone and make all the right choices and now I just get kicked in the face and told to deal with it.

I played and finished DA2 and preferred it over DAO, so please keep your assumptions to yourself, you clearly don't have a clue what you or we are talking about.

The recurring theme of the Mass Effect games is you are fighting against impossible odds.

The decisions in Mass Effect 2 were effectively meaningless as you could run the entire game without a single member of your team dying.

Lore wise the whole point of being a Spectre is that a lot of the time there IS no right choice, you just have to weigh up the options and pick the lesser evil. Mass Effect 2 took away any meaningful decisions by giving you a fairy tail version of what the game could have been.

I loved Mass Effect 2 don't get me wrong, but it took away a lot of the grittiness from the first game, and I'm not just talking about the bad film grain effect :)

Stop using Halo 2 as an example. Halo 2 is not the end of the Master Chief story arc. Regardless of how bad Halo 3 was, Halo 2 was still not the end.

Mass Effect 3 is the END of the Shepard story arc. THAT is why the ending is complete garage.

It was supposed to be. That's my point. Halo 3 shouldn't have existed with Bungie's original plan for Halo 2. But time constraints and engine problems forced them to split the game into two games.

In regards to your choices mattering in ME2, the only thing that changes in 2 is whether your crew lives/dies. Choices beyond that had immediate consequences and most of them were insignificant until the final mission made you make uneducated guesses as to where to put people.

This clown doesn't get why the fans are annoyed, he thinks we don't like it because its a little bit sad. How about the fact that all the choices we made in all 3 games don't really count for anything, and all the relationships we have built with all the characters are for naught because we don't see what happens to them apart from a couple of them may or may not survive in a magical crash landing on random planet ending.

I won't be buying into any more Bioware franchises in the future, Mass Effect will be my first and last its burned me too bad.

that's what everyone tells me about the ending (i haven't finished it yet, im hating my busy busy life right now) but im pretty sure with what everyone says imma rage quit the game when I get to the game. i don't get how they make such an epic game, arguably greatest trilogy ever made, and completely **** the end. it's like they forgot the game is based on your decisions... you see it throughout the rest of the game .

If they are considering changing the ending, I think they should give us the one which was cancelled because of leaks.

i don't get how they can miraculously change the ending (well i do, but you know what i mean...) imagine george lucas comes in and was like "we screwed up, luke is suppose to die and darth takes over the galaxy"

I agree.

They shouldn't change it in the first place. Whats done. is Done. Case closed.

But IF, they are considering it, why not the original one?

I think that they should have just dealt with the leak and released the original ending. But I also agree that what's done is done and crying over it won't change anything.

The leaked script looked awesome compared to what we got.

Apparently Javik was meant to be the catalyst? But instead got turned into Day one DLC and replaced by some kid...

What? Where? Nope. Maybe I've got the wrong one* (got right now off Google and it's not a script but a string list)? But the ending there is still quite the same - Someone is the Catalyst, Citadel is part of it and it explicitly refers to itself as "we" when talking about synthetics, and tells to "pick a color" posthaste, because the Crucible has somehow cut its godly powers.

* - in which case can someone send me the actual leaked script, pretty please?

Pretty sure this is allowed now given the game is out now, but you can read the leaked script here

Thank you :)

Hmm, I see that the ending's still quite the same, though. A dialog with Javik "up there" is kind of out of place (as it's also noted by whoever has made those little notes here and there).

In fact, f* it all. This over-analyzing of the damned ending leads to no good, anyway. Perhaps it indeed only makes sense for people above IQ 150 (or below 70, who knows). I'll just see what other interesting changes were there and wait for whatever they're cooking, or, in the worst case, cling to my own "ending" as I see fit.

To Mass Effect 3 players, from Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare

As co-founder and GM of BioWare, I?m very proud of the ME3 team; I personally believe Mass Effect 3 is the best work we?ve yet created. So, it?s incredibly painful to receive feedback from our core fans that the game?s endings were not up to their expectations. Our first instinct is to defend our work and point to the high ratings offered by critics ? but out of respect to our fans, we need to accept the criticism and feedback with humility.

Well, I'm not sure how to feel after reading that. Muzyka said that the ME3 team was genuinely surprised by the feedback about the ending...how is this even possible? Did the team even read/watch the endings before they sent the image out for production? Anyone even remotely aware of the series' lore would know that the endings were garbage. So it frightens me that they couldn't see this coming.

I'm glad Bioware finally announced they have plans for some type of release(s) that will answer the questions and closure issues the default ME3 endings completely failed to provide. However, he made no mention of price or schedule (we MIGHT get that in April, but who knows). By the way he worded his respond in this regard, he gives me a terrible feeling that the important, story-resolving DLCs (or whatever they are going to be) will not be free. It sounds like they have a whole range of post-release plans, and I highly doubt they won't charge for it.

Lame. :/

Having read/watched 'The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3' after the leak of the game/script they had to go back and change it, and I think they were trying to be clever by giving you this big ambiguous ending that was up to interpretation of the individual story of the person who played it.

Except it didn't work.

I think it worked fine, just people didn't want that kind of ending. They wanted to see the outcome of their choice to the fullest degree. See HOW their choice affected the galaxy. Without that they feel the ending is crap even if the ending really isn't crap. Everything that needed to be wrapped up was wrapped up properly while leaving enough unknowns for us to keep talking about it. Many developers do this on a consistent basis with their games, leaving little things at the end that open up something completely new or leave things open to keep the universe fresh and mysterious. I really don't see a problem with the events post choice not being explained and being left to the imagination and discussion of the community.

Also, prolonged exposure to something can desensitize you to its pro's/con's. Working on the same game for 2+ years can sometimes make it impossible for you to see what is and isn't good in it anymore. Things like this can easily happen without fresh eyes/ears on a project. Judging from the time constraint I'd say that wasn't available.

    • Gf needed a new Surface and was looking at a Surface Laptop because of the Snapdragon. Seeing as it was a two year old chip she just decided to get a Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 instead. Personally this Surface Ultra Cassis reminds me a bit of Razor. It would be interesting if it could handle proper gaming and be 17 inch.
    • No idea, frankly, I'm not into minimum requirements gaming, but it would be an interesting test to find out. Also, I just have to point out that it wasn't my intention to downplay the performance of DXVK on Linux or Linux gaming in general (despite my own experience being a bit of a mixed bag). I just thought it would be good to point out that DXVK is not Linux exclusive and that you can benefit from using it even in Windows.
    • Fastfetch 2.64 released bringing new logos and other improvements by David Uzondu Fastfetch, the popular command-line system information tool that developers created as a fast alternative to the classic Neofetch utility, has updated its codebase to version 2.64, bringing experimental scripting power, streamlined compilation options, a smarter logo renderer, and Codec module support. As noted earlier, Fastfetch can now detect hardware-accelerated video codecs across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android through this new Codec module. On Linux and BSD, the utility uses VA-API by default, with a fallback to VDPAU on Nvidia hardware if compiled with libva and libvdpau. Windows users get D3D12VA on Windows 11 or D3D11VA with Media Foundation Transforms on older systems, while macOS relies on VideoToolbox and Android utilizes AMediaCodec. You can manually toggle Vulkan Video via the config file, and the program will report both encoders and decoders unless configured otherwise. Logo support for Quasar, Origami, Origami_small, NixOS2, and BerserkArch also landed in this release. BerserkArch, if you have never heard of it, is a specialized Arch Linux derivative that targets security researchers and power users. This distro comes with an offensive security tool manager, simply called berserk, which allows users to install complex hacking toolkits with single terminal commands. Moving on, Fastfetch now has experimental scripting options for custom formats using Lua or QuickJS. The Lua integration supports versions 5.3 through 5.5, sharing a single interpreter instance across all modules so you can store variables globally. T Alternatively, if you prefer JavaScript, you can use QuickJS-ng version 0.15.0 or newer to evaluate your custom formats with the qjs: prefix. Other changes that version 2.64 brings include native CMake compilation flags to disable specific modules to shrink the final binary size. Users can delete unwanted ASCII logo files directly from the source directory before building to save additional space. The format engine now boasts ANSI-escape awareness, meaning you can center text with the new vertical bar specifier without breaking colored outputs. Haiku users receive preliminary support for boot manager, window manager theme, screen brightness, and other basic properties. Finally, the Linux edition now extracts desktop wallpaper and theme details from the modern COSMIC desktop environment.
