MxxCon
what do you need to do in windows to connect to your dsl? install any special software(pppoe/pppoa)? or is it simple dhcp? or something else?
thisispete
I have DSL running on linux. My ADSL harware is a modem router, so I dont need to use any software to establish a connection, it is conencted over ethernet. If you have a modem only, and you always need to establish a connection using a program to "dial" (send your username and password to the modem), there are PPPoA and PPPoE software in Redhat and Mandrake somewhere, but im unsure as to where as Ive never had to use them. If its a modem router in one, it *should* be running DHCP, so it will get an IP and DNS etc. assigned from the router. HOwever, with my tel$ra connection, my router doesnt like giving DNS settings to the cleints via DHCP so i manually give all my machines, including the linux ones, DNS entries. To do this its quite easy, however depending on what distro you use, will determine how you set this up. But in a nutshell, yes you can use ADSL on linux. If you need to configure the router you can do it trhough a internet browser by typing in its IP address. If you want anymore info, let us know what distro you are gonna be using, and we can work on some more detailed help. :edit: im blind. I can see you are gonna use Redhat (good choice), and ADSL works really well on this. I tried to get it to work on Mandrake but it failed miserably (i couldnt be bothered stuffing around with it). Anyway let us know what ISP and what modem or modem/router you have and I can help ya out. peete
