rdp RDP Windows Server 2008

When I RDP into Windows Server 2008 from Windows 7 I have to enter in my credentials, for example

http://www.techotopia.com/images/8/83/Windows_server_2008-security_screen.jpg I do not wish this to happen

I want it to go to the normal Windows Login screen, for example

http://www.vitalsoundlab.com/images/remote-desktop-windows-7.png - I know this is Windows 7, but it looks the same.

When I login from my XP laptop, I get what I desire just not Windows 7.

Is it possible or not possible?

P.S, I am very anal, hence why it's bothering me :p

Windows 7 uses different authentication methods. If you set the server to a higher level XP can't even log in anymore. So i don't think you can downgrade 7 to Xp auth method.

You could however just save the credentials? That way you don't have to see that login screen, just goes right in.

Can't really save them as I have different accounts for different purposes etc, plus I like login screen.

Im pretty sure you can do what you want if Im understanding you correctly

You save the file so you get a .rdp file -- you edit it and change

authentication level:i:0

and add

enablecredsspsupport:i:0

I tested it and when I click my p4-28g.rdp file I get this

You did see the note that this hack will not allow you to RDP to a Windows 2008 server with NLA enabled correct? Just wanted to make sure you caught that as I have had many admins try to figure out why a new Windows 2008 server build would not let them RDP into them. NLA is default on our builds at my office.

The fix below works great with straight RDP but does not work when using Remote Desktop Connection Manager. has anyone been able to get this working with RDCM?

Right click on the server, go to logon credentials tab, uncheck inherit from parent.and put your username/password in there. This works with all of my 2008 servers, my 2012 servers, and my 2003 servers. Using RDCM 2.2

You might want to give RDCMan a try...

 

 

 

I'm pretty sure It would give you want you want as you can save different user/pass combinations for each image and manage from one single UI
