Samsung reportedly to unveil Galaxy S III in February, debut new line of 3D devices

Korean electronics giant Samsung is reportedly set to launch the Galaxy S III, the successor to its popular

Galaxy S II Android smartphone, at Mobile World Congress in February, also debuting new 3D-capable

devices in the first quarter of 2012.

ETNews reports that Samsung will choose to introduce the latest in its Galaxy S line in Barcelona, almost

exactly a year after it launched the Galaxy S II, the world?s most successful Android smartphone to date.

The device is expected to feature new quad-core processing technology and may be outfitted with 3D

technology, as Samsung looks to differentiate its smartphones from Apple?s popular iPhone. With an MWC

launch, the Galaxy S III may go on sale in the second quarter.

3D photo and video recording capabilities may be coming to additional Samsung smartphones next year,

coming to a device referred to as the Galaxy S 3D ? helping users deliver content to their 3D TVs. Again,

this device could be launched in the second quarter of 2012.

The report sits firmly in the rumour category but with the Korean smartphone vendor introducing the

Galaxy S II at the same event earlier this year, it shouldn?t be ruled out that the company would do the

same again.

We don?t as yet have any official specifications on the Samsung Galaxy S III, from what we heard before it

may either come with a quad core 1.5GHz processor or Samsung?s new dual core 2GHz Exynos 5250

processor, 2GB of RAM and a 4.65 inch HD display with a 1280 x 720 resolution similar to the Galaxy Nexus.

I hope they don't sacrifice the screen by making it 3D. I couldn't care less for 3D, especially on a phone. The S2 was a near perfect phone to me, so they should focus on improving that for the S3, not introducing gimmicks like 3D.

Awesome, my current contract ends mid 2012 and I plan to hopefully get the Galaxy S3 (or worse case scenario the S2). Currently a HTC Desire owner and have to say I'm getting sick of the endless problems with it (read; constantly seeing the insufficient space warning everytime something updates etc).

The last two galaxy s phones have been generations ahead of the competition at release. The s3 should keep this trend going. The pressure is on for Samsung to deliver something spectacular.

3d is a gimmick so I hope there's a non-3d version of the device!

If its based on the new Tegra chipset the battery life is supposed to be improved considerably, however I am waiting to hear more about battery life from the new Transformer tablets to see if its really working as well as it should

I don't know if the cpu is the only problem here.

The screen and antenna draw a lot of juice from the battery. A 4.65" screen can't be that battery-friendly.

And, depending on your location, if signal is bad, the phone trying to keep a good 3G/4G connection will ruin your battery life.

Good thing is that the battery is replaceable. If someones lifestyle requires extra juice they can carry a spare. I consider my lifestyle pretty active and I use my SII LTE quite a bit and do not have battery issues, but I know there will be people that do.

There hasn't been a keyboard variant of the previous two devices, and so a one for S3, seems highly unlikely. :(
