British Airways flight mistakenly tells passengers plane will crash

Recommended Posts

yes it is, it is the exact same thing. A verbal threat of death is the same, no matter if it is prerecorded or spoken aloud by someone near you. It is still just a verbal threat.

How does stick and stones work? Lets pick apart a childrens saying... sheesh I can't believe neowin is degrading into such drivel.

You should probably stay inside, if you become so "traumatized" by peoples words. As well as never go online, because you will hear it plenty in games lol.

People now days just want to complain about any little thing. They apparently have no real troubles, and thus must make the smallest thing into a huge thing via "oh they are sooo traumatized by what someone said to them."

Why are you representing this as some black and white thing? It's not a case of 'it was the most awful thing in the world' or 'it's all fine'. People are affected by events that happen to them, regardless of whether harm actually came to pass. There is also a difference between types of verbal threats: if I told you right now I was going to harm you, of course you laugh it off. If I was standing in front of you with a knife when I said it... well, that's different isn't it.

In no way am I suggesting the BA should be sued, or that the people on the flight should be refunded the full cost of the flight. Mostly just that they should be afforded more sympathy than 'well, they should get over it'.

If you think anyone is permanently traumatized by this, they probably already had downs syndrome to begin with. I've been on roller coaster rides scarier and more life threatening than this....

Leave out the jabs at the disabled, eh?

No, you haven't been on roller coasters where you were literally told it was going to crash, don't be ridiculous.

To all you people who said they should not get away with this or a refund should be handed out answer this, why? Having the attitude of most Americans is not an excuse or a reason. They paid to get from point a to point b, they got there, they did not die, and that is that. Stuff happens, live with it.

Big difference between pointing a gun at someone, and hearing a message. It would be like if you were at a bank, someone ran in, said "This is a stick up" and then said, "NA , just kidding." There was no threat given besides a verbal one.

Sticks and stones can break bones, but words can never hurt you... unless you are a *****. ( not calling anyone here that, just saying it )

Actually, many people hear threats daily. Just play a game online, and you will hear tons lol. People just need to stop being such *******.

This may be the first and only time I ever agree with you (Y)

inb4 "emotional trauma"..

People are so pathetic these days. Sure, it'd be as scary as hell, but nobody died or was harmed.. so..

I got stuck on a rollercoaster once... We hung upside down for almost an hour and a half. Was freaky as hell, tiring, and scary. I requested nothing. It is a great story and event that I will never forget, and everythign ended well. They actually did refund our admission for the day and gave us passes for another day to use. But that was their offering, and I wouldn't have cared if it was nothing. Accidents happen, and as long as you are ok in the end, there is nothing to complain about... that is just life.

gah, if I was on that flightI would be calm :/ but if my mother was with me then my god... she would be the thing to stress me out screaming and I would then try and sue for the stress that announcement caused

An apology letter? Really?

How about refunding the cost of the flight as a minimum to start.

I don't see why should they, they've brought them to their destination, albeit shocked and disoriented, but healthy and something cool to tell their grandchildren.

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish.
