Well it is more difficult to find programs and even shut down your PC without the start menu.

But you can install V Start that will give you both the start orb and the Windows 7 start menu in Windows 8 CP. And there are a few other programs that do this. But what would be the best solution is for Microsoft to give us the option to disable Metro, like we could in DP. that is what most people want.

I don't want the Metro theme.I want the Windows 7 desktop and start menu. I hate the Metro theme. Andrea Borman.

How is it more difficult to start programs? Just start typing the program you want to run at the start screen and it will search your programs for you.

Very difficult.Especially if there are bugs in the operating system and it is very slow and keeps crashing all the time. That's what it's like on Windows 8 CP. And also it's no start menu and the Metro theme.

I want a normal version of Windows with a normal desktop and start menu. Like Windows 7,Windows XP and Windows Vista. And even Windows 2000,98 and 95 has got this. But Windows 8 CP has not.

Instead of calling it Windows 8 Consumer Preview, why not call it WINDOWS 8 NIGHTMARES PREVIEW. Because being stuck with Windows 8 CP is our worst nightmare. Most people including me will not be able to use a computer any more. Andrea Borman.

Well unfortunately Windows 8 CP is very bad. And it is exactly like that. You cannot use it because there are so many problems. So WINDOWS 8 NIGHTMARES PREVIEW is a good name for it.Why don't Microsoft just let up and make Windows 8 with a normal Windows 7 desktop and start menu?

But I don't think they are going to do that. Andrea Borman.

Send Microsoft your feedback if you want them to change the Windows 8 desktop experience. But quit your bitching on here! It is annoying to no end. </rant>

If you tried using Windows 8 on something other then a mediocre netbook you'd realize it's actually faster then Windows 7.

Metro is here to stay. If you don't like it then just keep using Windows 7 and stop trying to drag everyone down with you.

If she tried using it at all, since she has no idea what metro actually is.

Well I wrote to my local emperor d. sidious and he agreed that the threat Windows 8 nightmare edition represents is too grave to go unanswered.

He said he'll be sending some imperial destroyers to take out the OS factory in Redmond "in the coming weeks/months" so fear not, we should be Windows safe for some time to come.

I've read a lot of comments in different parts of the web that complain about Windows 8. Apparently it's not going over well despite a lot of fanboys belief to the contrary. I feel Metro is okay but the desktop experience is poorly done.

See? Depends on your perception as to how you see the situation.

Easylist doesn't seems to provide adblocking but TPL only.

Fanboy seems to block ads well. I had nary an ad since enabling it on IE9 and now IE10.

well ive been using CP from day one, have no problems with the start button. I have to say i didnt like DP, and bitched about it, after using CP for awhile now, im enjoying windows 8 and don't mind it. Looking forward to seeing the RTM and what Microsoft decided to go with.

Really enjoying the Immersive music player now that I have gotten myself to use it instead of Zune. A lot of Zune's functionality has been built into it. I can't wait to see what the app will look like at release. :D

So (if anyone is still actively checking this thread) has there been a solution found to the non-existent sound coming from laptop speakers issue? When I am plugged into the head phones jack, the sound plays fine, but normally thru the laptop speakers there is nothing. All drivers are installed properly as well (Dell Vostro 1400)

Any Help is appreciated to anyone who knows about this issue. Thanks.

Hmmm.. It seems to be an issue with a lot of people.

I installed it on a Vaio S, a week ago or so, and after the installation, all was good. Sound included. The other day, the sound went off, for no good reason. :/

After two days, it came back again. Just out of the blue.

Still working fine, as of this last day.

Well :

a) It's a beta so bugs like that aren't supported.

b) It's probably a driver issue (they can be outdated even if they are installed properly!).

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
