No driver for Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)

Recommended Posts

I am using:

  • iTunes 10.5.3.3
  • Windows 7 x64 SP1
  • iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1 (stuck on screen with iTunes logo with the arrow and the USB cable)

When I plug the iPhone in, iTunes does not detect it.

There are two entries in Device Manager with errors, both devices are called "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)"

I have pointed to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers but Windows can not find the drivers in there.

Within that folder exists the following:

  • usbaapl64.cat
  • usbaapl64.inf
  • usbaapl64.sys
  • usbaaplrc.dll

I have tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes.

Any ideas?

Try a different USB port, helps from time to time. If THAT doesn't work there is either something wrong with the USB cable or with the Windows install.

uninstall completely iTunes using Revo uninstaller (including registry entries) and re-install.

Remember to back up iTunes music/app folders like C:\Users\username\MyMusic\iTunes

That fixed it. Tar :)
