YAY! Good riddance. These sites make money because they host massive amounts of pirate files. I don't think I ever saw anyone using these sites for legitimate reasons!

Called double edged. There are a number of people using sites like Filesonic, megaupload, etc that uses it legitimately, as well as piracy, and it's not just a few. I know many people use filesonic frequently for mods, or whatever else reason, and they are ****ed off that this happened. This is a case in point that legitimate people are being punished over criminal acts that they didn't do.

I used this site when I couldnt get access to megaupload to transfer files to work from my Home PC

Maybe if you came down off your anti-piracy high horse and took a little look around you'd have seen legitiamte files on filesharing sites.

All share functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.

Both FS servers are based in UK and Hong Kong.

So you have no doubt heard about the insanity surrounding the shutting down of MegaUpload, particularly the wild story about how the file-sharing website's founder was arrested in high fashion. Well, this has all clearly spooked other file-sharing services, including FileSonic. If you go to its homepage, you're greeted by a message that reads: "All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally." Not only that, but Uploaded.to is no longer available for use in the U.S.

Wow. Do you think anyone else will fold in light of the ongoing witch hunt? And could a major player like Mediafire go under?

Update: The FileSonic Facebook page has now disappeared. Props to our reader William Tran for the tip.

false news.. they arent "shutdown" they just got rid of paying users for uploading.

you can still download your personal files if you have used them for legit purposes.

i still have my dropbox connected to them :p

One exception may be Mediafire. They don't have the same restrictions as other file hosts (no countdown timer, download managers are allowed, etc). So I've seen lots of legitimate usage of Mediafire in general, particularly by independent developers uploading their software there.

what did this slow down in terms of piracy? The only ones that used these types of sites were the ones that don't know what private tracker means. All it did was get rid of the amateurs

well you gotta equate that with the percentile of amateurs which are vastly greater in number than by those who use alternative means.

The feds did a smart move with megaupload. It's like taking out drug cartels, you take out the biggest middle man in the market and the rest will just freak out. They might even nab a few sources along the way.

      The funny thing here is that like 70% or so of the web browser users use 'Google Chrome' as web browser. What I don't understand is that why on earth would ANYONE choose 'Google Chrome' on Windows when 'Microsoft Edge' is not just better in most things, but it's already there right out of the box for the Windows users. Microsoft Edge has less data collection (yes, that's a fact), less RAM usage and is more optimized for Windows (as it's a Microsoft product) right out of the box. Sure, the way Microsoft is pushing Microsoft Edge on users might not be the best way of doing it and might need to change. But I would never choose 'Google Chrome' over 'Microsoft Edge' today anyways. I'm sure there was a period back in the days when 'Google Chrome' actually was better in most things, but that period is not today.

Instead of displaying the actual image, the IDE simply showed a broken image icon, a problem that stuck around for two years before this update. Over on Windows, developers running WSL can now use wsl.exe to spin up their environments without losing terminal functionality. In previous builds, launching a terminal shell with something like wsl.exe -d ubuntu inside a Windows-based project broke both shell integration and active process detection. Other bug fixes in this release include: An issue where Gradle sync incorrectly reported success as a failure on WSL when using Gradle 9.5.0.
