Just to give you a heads up, i have Neowin auto loading whenever i open IE, and this last time around when it opened it looked like one of the Ad's got infected with a virus, and tried to download said virus to my machine, i killed IE before it infected it (i think) but will do a full round of scans just to be sure. but you might want to call your ad provider and register a complaint with them.

Well there's always a solution ;) (this isn't ad-blocking software before any-one kills me :p)

Ah yes.... Get a subscription or Neowin will infect you with viri .. Glad to see we're rolling with the elite here... /cough /s

Isn't it a bit backward when the "in the know" websites send you virus infected ads, yet reddit, facebook, etc seem to have kicked the habit?

I guess I'll be the one to say it then, but perfect reason to use every form of ad blocking software there is. spy-bot + PG + Adblock + no script+ everything else.. Would you trust your bank if they had multiple incidents of "losing your personal information"? ads are great to support worthwhile sites such as neowin, they gotta make money somehow, but if they keep serving up suspect ads...its time to block 'em all.

Why is it whenever I mention blocking ads, my posts get removed? Someone else mentions it and it's fine? Regardless, protecting your privacy is the number one security policy you should have online, regardless of where you surf. The problem is, webmasters rarely check the reputations of the ad-hosting companies they choose, so a lot of the crap slips through the cracks. Sure, they might file a report or whatever, but it's like putting a Band Aid on cancer. Until we can trust ad companies (i.e. never), the safest solution is to just block them. If webmasters can't make a living on their own, that's their problem. I bet most people don't even click on the crap that's being advertised anyway.

Not so, we have used the same ad provider for years, we don't chop and change to other ad providers because they promise a few bucks more, and every reported ad that has been posted here has been removed by them after I've submitted a report.

So, please don't accuse us of going gung-ho with ads when this clearly isn't the case.

I'm also not seeing a wide spread issue here yet.

    • Recycle Bin has been broken for literal YEARS now. The setting to delete files older than 30 days from the bin which is on by default doesn't even work. I have files older than 4 months in it and they are just there still...
