Trailer rebuild for my Dad's 70th birthday.

I just posted some pictures on Flickr of the rebuild I did on my Dad's trailer for his 70th birthday. He's had this thing for years and it has slowly rotted to the point where I was able to remove most of the wood simply by pulling on it with my hands. I think it came out pretty good, although it could have been better if I'd had more time.

I had thought about using metal for it, but:

1. it would have been far more expensive

2. I don't have the necessary tools to work with it properly

3. I wouldn't have had enough time to get it done

and 4. I wanted to keep the same style of the original with only minor improvements (the original didn't have a tailgate)

The wood I used was Yellawood pressure treated pine, with Behr waterproofing deck stain over the top of it. The combination should last quite a long time.

Yesterday was actually his birthday, but I won't be able to bring it to him till Thursday since he and my Mom are on a church retreat the first part of the week. I'm making a trip down to their house anyway to bring some stuff that I'm putting in storage for our upcoming move.

I saw the thread title and thought that it was about a trailer to live in. Damn trailer trash :p

I wondered how many people were going to think that.

Thanks. I actually got all of it done in about a week. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees it.

From my experience, there's nothing that makes a parent as happy as receiving a thoughtful gift from their child.

And chalk me up as another one who was confused on your usage of trailer. :p

Nice job man and congrats with your fathers 70th!

Thanks. I'm really looking forward to seeing him tomorrow to give it to him. My Mom has done a good job of keeping it a secret from him, so I really do expect him to be surprised.

Every sentence in your post I am replying to is racist nonsense. None of it is actually based on any facts whatsoever. All immigrants are seeking a better life too. It's literally the only reason they would risk everything and leave their homes, families, and homeland. They are working and contributing to the economy too, as you even admit.
