George Lucas Now Says That Han NEVER Shot First As He Shoves Star Wars 3D Down Your Throat

History revisionists. I hate them. But not as much as I hate George Lucas for making Han shoot last. Now, with Star Wars 3D about to arrive to the theaters, Lucas has completely lost it. He now says that Han NEVER shot first:

The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo [who seemed to be the one who shot first in the original] to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn't. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.

Poppycock.

George, how do you have the thermal detonators to try to rewrite history in this way? Do you think we are stupid? Wasn't it enough to paint that stupid laser blast coming at an stupid angle from Greedo? Do you really think that, if Greedo shot first, he would have missed Han at that distance? Was he the son of two Stormtroopers?

No, George, you can draw all the lasers you want and add all the wider shots you want, but you can't rewrite history.

Come on, George. It's time to put away the crack pipe. Han Solo shot first, end of discussion.

Part of me wishes now that Lucas had just died after Jedi. It just makes me sad sometimes that my youth was shaped by something wonderful he made but he has spent my entire adult life trying to destroy and ruin it.

Every time I see one of those Vodafone adverts with Yoda in I die a little more inside.

^^ Yep right after the "Have" you see a little flash on the wall, and then Han shoots.

And you can clearly see/hear Greedo's gun go off first. It happens pretty fast but its clear Greedo shot first.

EDIT: Apparently, the scene was edited later to show Greedo shooting first but I guess in the original 1977 theatrical version, Solo shot first. Whether or not Lucas had a bad angle/close up in the theatrical version is anyone's guess and will probably always be open for debate. I tend to believe Lucas only because Solo doesnt come off as a cold blooded killer in any of the other scenes/movies.

Kinda looks like they skipped past Greedo shooting and only showed Solo. That scene looked odd and possible Lucas edited it to include Greedo's part and him shooting first. Solo doesnt come off any other time as a cold blooded killer.

I think that is the point that the fans make in argument against Lucus changing it to show Greedo shot first. Part of the story is Han going from a greedy self-centered son of a bitch to a noble man who helps the rebels win. You know, character development.

Pretty big/fast change in character for Solo tho.

Even here, Han's not a cold-blooded killer. Greedo is clearly going to shoot him. He has said as much. Just because Han shot first doesn't mean it wasn't self-defense. It draws its inspiration from a Western Saloon shootout.

Regardless, Han is a rogue, a smuggler, and a scoundrel. Han shoots first.

Lucas doesn't understand character development. Screenwriters like Lawrence Kasdan do. Directors like Irvin Kershnerdo. Producers like Gary Kurtz do. Editors like Lucas's ex-wife do. Note that she left him during JEDI and he hasn't had his will challenged by anyone since...which is why he hasn't had he hasn't made a good film since as well.

These are the people who made the original Star Wars from Lucas's wild and scattered notes. And those are the people who Lucas didn't have involved in the prequels...and it shows.

Dont know why anyone bothers with this anymore. Lucas has butchered the original movies beyond recognition. I personally dont watch them unless they are on TV where I dont realy pay attention. I have some old VHS and DVD copies, those are the only ones I will ever buy, none of the jumped up, 3D-fied, distorted storyline BS he is trying to push. People should stop watching and buying his crap, maybe then he'll listen.

In the theatrical version, yes Solo shot first but that could of been in the original cut and just left out in the movie as well. Who knows since new releases of movies come out with missing/left out scenes all the time. You can either believe Lucas or not and this is something that will probably always be debated. I am just going by the rest of the movies and how he acted there. There is a difference in being greedy and a cold blooded killer.

I seriously can't believe this thread exists ... and I seriously can't believe anyone gives a flying s**t ... I swear, geeks need to SERIOUSLY get a life :D

But dude! we all thought Harry Potter shot Vadar first. Now we find out it was Bilbo and Gandalf? My whole world is falling apart. Someone call that tv show that busts myths.. ghosthunters!

Love starwars but love even more that I didn't turn out like this, making an issue over who shot first. It doesn't matter who shot first after the movie they were all raped by hobbits. /thread

It's kind of like the TV show "The Shield" if you think about.

Imagine what would have happened if the director went back to the end of the first episode of "The Shield" and re-edited the scene so Vic Mackey shot Terry in self defense. Wrap your head around that one!

This is definitely squatch territory.

    • This Chinese company is reportedly developing a feature Apple and Samsung can only dream of by Hamid Ganji While companies like Apple and Samsung have been relatively conservative with their devices’ battery capacities in recent years, Chinese manufacturers have taken the competition to the next level by introducing significantly larger batteries. However, the latest report from China suggests that a local company may already be developing a smartphone with a whopping 14,000mAh battery. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that a smartphone maker is developing a device with a 14,000mAh battery. If true, it would be the largest battery ever used in a smartphone and could, in theory, provide up to a week of battery life on a single charge. The leaker did not reveal the name of the company behind the device, but there are some clues. This week, HONOR unveiled the X80 Pro Max in China with an 11,000mAh battery and 90W wired charging support. The company also launched the Honor Win in January, which packs a 10,000mAh battery. HONOR, a former subsidiary of Huawei, has a proven track record of developing smartphones with unusually large batteries. However, other Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, have also launched devices such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max with 7,500mAh batteries. Though Chinese users on Weibo also believe the company behind the new battery is HONOR. Interestingly, Digital Chat Station said the device with the 14,000mAh battery weighs around 220 grams, making it lighter than the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max (233 grams) and slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (214 grams). The iPhone 17 Pro Max currently packs a 5,088mAh battery in eSIM-only versions, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery. Neither device is expected to see a dramatic increase in battery capacity in its next-generation successor. So when it comes to battery comparison, Chinese brands are unbeaten. HONOR smartphones are currently available in the EU, but the Chinese brand has no official presence in the United States due to restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.
    • Qualcomm takes on NVIDIA with new Dragonfly CPU and AI chips by Pradeep Viswanathan Microsoft, Google, Amazon, AMD, Meta, Apple, OpenAI, and several others have been developing their own chips for AI infrastructure. However, NVIDIA still remains the dominant player in the market. Today, Qualcomm announced a major expansion of its data center infrastructure portfolio to better compete with NVIDIA. The new lineup includes the Qualcomm Dragonfly C1000 CPU, Qualcomm High Bandwidth Compute technology, the Dragonfly AI300 inference accelerator, new connectivity products, and custom silicon solutions. Qualcomm claims that this new lineup improves performance per watt, token throughput, and total cost of ownership for AI data centers. The Dragonfly C1000 is a new data center CPU built with Qualcomm’s custom Oryon cores. This chip will feature more than 250 cores, frequencies above 5GHz, and a chiplet-based design. Qualcomm claims that this new C1000 can deliver more than 2x better performance per watt compared to existing server CPU offerings based on specifications. The Dragonfly C1000 will support PCIe Gen 7 with more than 2TB/s of connectivity, along with CXL, advanced RAS features, and both air and liquid cooling. Qualcomm expects the Dragonfly C1000 to be commercially available in 2028. Additionally, Qualcomm and Meta announced a multi-year, multi-generation agreement under which Qualcomm will supply Dragonfly C1000 data center CPUs for Meta’s next-generation server fleet. Qualcomm also announced High Bandwidth Compute, a new near-memory computing architecture designed to address AI’s memory bandwidth bottleneck. HBC Gen 1 will debut with the Dragonfly AI250, which is expected to sample in mid-2027. The AI250 will deliver 133TB/s per card, an 18x increase in effective memory bandwidth compared to the AI200 with LPDDR5X. The new Dragonfly AI300 with HBC Gen 2 is a rack-level AI inference platform from Qualcomm. Qualcomm claims that the AI300 can deliver 4x to 8x better performance per watt compared to existing GPU-based architectures based on memory bandwidth per watt per card. The Dragonfly AI300 is expected to be available in 2028.
