65 y/o man kills teen mugger, wounds another

"Psycos" like me? What is psychotic about protecting my family? The fact is that evil exists. I have a right to defend my family, myself and my possessions from said evil. How would you propose defending your family from an intruder?

You also mention that you would shoot someone in the knees and avoid a kill shot. This speaks of even more ignorance. You have obviously never fired a gun. Additionally, you only pull your gun when you intend to kill. To do other wise would make the situation infinitely worse. A lot of us have training for these scenarios, legal and tactical. We're not off the handle radicals.

Point proven. People like you should not have a gun. I couldn't care less if you hve reasons of protecting your family. Your shoot to kill mentality is over the top and scary.

Oh sure - lets spend time and money on someone who was already in serious enough trouble to have a tracking device and on house arrest - STILL went and did this.

And you want to slap his hand and tell him "no"

Are you menstrating this week by any chance ?

Oh right. So we'll just put a bullet in them, no worries.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

It's a shame that the teenager's life had to be taken. If I was in the old man's position, I would've fired a warning shot first. I'll never understand this "kill the criminal" mentality that some people have.

You don't own the air. And if you condone the killing of teenagers, then I truly feel sorry for you.

*****. If more acted in this manner there would be less deadbeats screwing it up for the rest of us. Your opinion is a sad state.

Regardless of what you think he is simply expressing what is taught in civilian concealed weapon licensure classes, the content of which is state regulated and the instructors state certified - and very often cops. Lesson #1 is don't pull the weapon unless you intend to use it, and Lesson #2 is shoot to kill.

Shoot to wound and warning shots are specifically discouraged because they're more likely to go astray and either damage property or injure an innocent downrange. If the bullet finds its way into the major mass of the perp that isn't a problem.

Only to those who have never been in the situation and talk out of their arse.

Whats even worse is I learned the hard way how dangerous that can be. If enough requests are made, I may file a public records request and get a copy of the security camera video and upload it so these idiots can see what happens when you pull a gun without immediately firing.

Only to those who have never been in the situation and talk out of their arse.

exactly. I have never been in a situation where I need a gun. But if I am, I'm sure as hell not firing a warning shot.

(Can't tell if you realized my comment was sarcastic-

I would love to see that footage!!!

When I get time, I will look into it, its a little embarrassing because I followed the advice of these idiots on here and got lucky I wasn't killed, but still I will look into it.

Well you can run around scared with a gun in your pocket or you can live somewhere where you don't have to worry about it.

I don't have to worry about firing warning shots or getting my gun taken away from me because I don't fear my fellow citizens and my taxes go to supporting an effective police force that not only solves crimes but can prevent them as well.

Where does this place exist where there are no criminals?

Since that is only rhetorical, when you or someone in your wonderful land does get robbed, you not only have enough time during said robbery to call the police but they also have enough time to get there before the criminal has any chance to harm you.

I'm sorry but there are too many risks and chances involved in your perfect world.

1) there is no such place - just look at the knife attack & bludgeoning rates in the UK etc.

1) I'm realistic, not afraid. You can either stand aside and watch loved ones be harmed or you can get proactive about it. I choose proactive. You can choose to be a sheeple if you want.

I live in one of the lowest crime rate areas in the country in a private gated community so I dont know what its like to live in fear in your own home, or every time you go out. I do not have a CCL, but I do own a couple guns - I think Arizona & Texas crime rates have dropped since conceal & carry laws were passed. Anyone know the %age ?

Fred, my home town where my incident happened in just had its first armed robbery in 4 decades and its first murder in 6 decades. Towns change, in my case its neo nazis moving down from cour de lane and Spokane to my area.

"Well you can run around scared with a gun in your pocket or you can live somewhere where you don't have to worry about it."

So, exactly what is your plan when you need to leave your little utopian-bubble? Ever hear of a business trip, vacation, road trip, visiting sites, relatives, etc..?

Or, instead of "running around scared" like everyone else, you just hide scared in your little bubble and never come out?

This is why I disagree with guns being legal. Whether he was frightened for his life or not, the fact of the matter is that the kids wouldn't have actually killed him.

That is NOT a fact, nor is it safe to assume that.

I bullet to the knee is going to stop the person, and give you time to apprehend.

You (and others who suggest shooting to wound) watch WAY too much TV and movies.

When I get time, I will look into it, its a little embarrassing because I followed the advice of these idiots on here and got lucky I wasn't killed, but still I will look into it.

Your experience does not mean that everybody else's experience would be the same. You really don't understand this, do you?

That is NOT a fact, nor is it safe to assume that.

They didn't kill the other people they mugged. They were little ****s, robbers, but not killers.

Ever heard of escalation (as it applies to criminal behavior)?

I'm sure you have, but are either too ignorant to understand it, or don't want to admit that your hugs and kisses approach to dealing with violent thugs simply isn't realistic.

Must be so nice to be so naive and still have so much faith your fellow man. They say ignorance is bliss but really its just ignorance.

The only times that I've ever been violently attacked in the country involved wooded sticks with curved blades on the end. Someone went to hospital just last night to get x-rays in fact.

I live in a city of 3 million people (metro area of 5+) and I have no need of guns or security alarms. No one in my family has been a victim of a violent crime. No cars have been stolen, no homes have been burglarized. Even if somebody were to pick my house, I am rest assured that the criminal wouldn't bother to arm themselves because the street cost of a gun is relatively high here (due to stricter controls) and since no homeowners have a gun then there isn't a need for the criminal to be scared either. It's quite common for people to leave a key outside under a rock anyway. I rarely bother to lock the garage. There just isn't any need to live in fear. A guy can't even walk a girl home at 1am because she won't even be scared.

Escalation happens because they either get away with some initial crimes and begin to feel themselves to be invincible or they do get caught and they soon find out that there is no better criminal university than prison.

The sooner you engage at-risk youth with community programs, drop-in sports activities, training and education options then the cheaper and safer it will be. A stitch in time saves nine and there should be no doubt that prison is expensive. Victims of crime also find the costs too high for an entirely different reason.

The solution is to spend more money on them before they become hardened criminals. Ultimately it is cheaper for society.

    • For a guy who claims to hate Farage and the ignorant, gullible, rightwing racist skinheads sponsored by Putin that his lies represent, you sure are quoting them time and time and time again, mate. I guess you're conveniently ignoring the fact that your country and commonwealth just happened to work much better when it was still part of the E.U.? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
