I only dislike the odd perspective put on the window. I understand that it was supposed to imply motion, since metro relies heavily on animations, but just angling the window doesn't give me that message. In fact I think it makes the logo look weak since it's sort of sliding away.

On the phone the tiles "fold in" from that angle. I think that's the motion intended to be implied by the logo.

I'm guessing Apple is having a blast now. Seriously Microsoft, you lack some serious coolness.

So, wait. Having an outline of an apple for a logo is different than having an outline of a window, how....?

Look at this video and that's basically what Windows 8 is

MSDOS Executive is Metro interface from where you launch everything. Windows 1 -> Windows 8, exact same concept.

I know this was a joke post, but it's sad some people actually are going to believe this.

Check it out, .tmp files, fonts and system executables all stored in the same directory as the text files you're supposed to read, now THAT'S an organized file system!

You know what's funny? I'm sure they paid a lot (and I mean A LOT) of money to come up with this logo a ten years old kid could have thinked of :p

I love minimalist, simple and "straight to the point" designs.... but in this case, it's simply boring and dull. Sorry ?soft, that's a fail

The logo is really growing on me. I'll have to wait until the CP, though, to see how exactly it changes color. Sounds like an interesting idea, but I wonder how it will work in practice.

What is happening right now: "Baaaawww, Windows 8, Baaawwww, METRO, Baaawwwww"

What will happen in a year: "Wheeeee, Windows 8, Wheeee, METRO, Wheeee"

BTW, that bit** at Pentagram should read a book or two about something called "perspectives"... just saying....

http://blog.tarng.co...-of-perspective

I think they intended for that. Not only is it supposed to look like a window, but the recentangles make it also represent/look like live tiles.

Sure Heracles, after over 10 years of not using Windows I'll switch to it. Oh wait, that's the other way around.

As I said, not interested.

Yet you've been posting in this 7 page thread why exactly? It's interesting how much people around here say they don't like, care or are not interested in it yet still post away in threads about them often enough to make me question the truth behind their statement.

So about that Windows 8 logo?

So there you have it, the Windows 8 logo. I was wrong about it being a fake. It?s very much a real, thing. I?m just going to quote from the popular and respected ?Brand New? corporate identities blog which I wholeheartedly agree with.

?(Segoe) works best as a user interface ingredient but as the typography on a logo, it?s extremely underwhelming ? pair it with the worst rendition yet of the Windows window and you have a real loser. I?m not saying the previous Windows icons were good, but they had enough abstraction (and gradients and shadows and highlights) to at least look techie and Microsoft-ey, but this ?minimal? approach looks like, well, a window. A window in a $400-a-month studio apartment rental with beige carpeting and plastic drapes. Moving away from the more flag-like icon seems like abandoning two decades of equity ? crappy equity, but equity nonetheless.

Since I know it?s unreasonable to suggest going back to the drawing board (although not impossible), here are some minor tweaks I would suggest to make it a little easier to swallow.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
    • 18 months ago I bought the 4TB variant for $380 CDN. Now it is $1500 CDN [$949 US].
