What would you get between D5100 , T3i or Alpha a65

Recommended Posts

Hello my friends,

I?m getting married next week and for our honeymoon I want to get a DSLR, I am giving my old Nikon D40 to my sister and I want to get a new one.

I am getting one of the 3 I mentioned in the title but not sure which. I have read many reviews on all of them and I think I may be leaning for the Sony Alpha a65. But just before I go buy it I wanted a final opini?n from Neowin so let me have it, what would you guys get_

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hawk thanks for the reply could you elaborate on why? Almost all the reviews I have read the Sony comes out better then Canon or Nikon, better fetures like 10 FPS shooting speed, OLED viewfinder, etc. I have always used Nikon and really love it but I feel that sony is trying harder in this generation of cameras.

I would usually say Canikon, however, nikons new pricing policy, which basically limits you to whenever they feel like giving you discounts...

IMO though reviews say you can't tell the difference the difference between OLED and "normal" viewfinder, I would hesistate having an OLED viewfinder... IMO it just adds another electric component that might fail, whilst a normal mirror viewfinder is proven :)

Though... According to many places, the benefits of going with sony is the whole bunch of cheap konica minolta used glass out there...

I would say go with the Canon or Nikon, I think the 5100 may be a bit better build wise, and perform better at high ISO, I've found Canon's easier to use. I've not read much about the Sony Alphas, but I try and stay away from their products (I'm biased against Sony; I've been burned by them before).

If you had a D40, that would be another reason to stick with Nikon.

I shoot Sony so I may be biased.

If your main concern is low noise at high ISOs then get the D5100, otherwise the A65 is better than either the D5100 or T3i in resolution, FPS, Viewfinder and AF system. Ergonomics is a personal preference so if you can hold all three cameras it'd make a nice comparison.

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
