Downloaded and installed to a VHD, and dual booting. Looks much better than the dev preview, BUT, cannot detect the video card correctly in my Asus laptop and I can't use my external monitor and the video performance was sub-par.

First impressions: Without a convenient way to kill (close) apps, it will be annoying as hell going to desktop=>task manager just to close apps that are using resources.

I'll give it some more time tomorrow, but for now, time for some sleep.

from what i understand (dont have it installed yet) you grab the app from the top and pull it to the bottom to close.

You're correct - put your courser at the top of the screen and a little hand appears. Drag down and it closes the app. you can also use it to drag left or right (pinning it)

I really don't like we can't customize the Desktop anymore. There is no way to adjust fonts, border padding, title bar color, etc. I don't like this in Mac OS X, and I don't like that Windows is following the same direction.

I thought there was a way to label the different groups on the start screen, is there?

Yes, down at the bottom right side of the screen is a little icon to click to zoom out. Click it, and then you can right-click the individual groups to name them.

Shocked with the amount of people saying " I Upgraded from XXXXXXXX"

Why would one ever run this as their main OS? It's a preview, far from final version. VM or Dual boot, but to upgrade your OS to this, now? Damn!

Ummm, because we can. Dude, this isn't Windows 95/98. Since Windows 7, these betas are much more stable. Besides, ever hear of backup/restore? It's a phenominal technology! ;)

Supporting it on normal desktop PCs or laptops is going to be a nightmare. Ugh. I consider myself an advanced user and was confused by the inconsistencies. Why for instance can't I set the screen resolution in the Metro-style PC settings? Why do I have to go to the desktop for it?

Sorry, but Windows 8 is going to make a lot of people very unhappy on PCs. For tablets it's fine.

I don't see a problem here for at least my company. Our Sales and Packaging staff don't need to use the Start Menu for any of their applications as we deploy images with shortcuts on the Desktop. Showing them how to restart/lock their workstations will involve a handout with directions on how to do so.

The one thing I'm noticing is that I can't join it to a Windows SBS domain using the scripts. Apparently, it doesn't meet the maximum system requirements yet. Hopefully Microsoft updates SBS for Windows 8 support soon, as I have a few customers that will be wanting to test out 8 for their networks, and they aren't likely to upgrade to SBS 2011 just for that.

    • Your other comment in another article says otherwise, namely "Microsoft veteran wants to replace every single line of C/C++ code with Rust and AI".
    • Sued and... exonerated. Oh, they learned a lesson alright. They learned that anyone who uses the word "antiturst" in conjunction with "Microsoft" is an idiot, even if that person is Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. That judge ruined the image of the US justice system. Microsoft Edge has a 5.14% market share. Also, Windows is no longer the #1 OS. None of this constitutes a monopoly. Google Chrome, however, has 70.25% share. Also, Google's Android is the #1 OS. Now that's closer to a monopoly.
